Hello everyone, My name is Maranda Weekley. I am currently studying to obtain my masters in Health Administration Sciences here at SNHU. I currently reside in Pennsylvania and live near the city of Pittsburgh. I currently work as a respiratory therapist and this has been a very trying field since our current pandemic, but can be very rewarding. The two things I love to do the most is travel and hang poolside with my dogs. When looking at both for-profit and not-for-profit businesses they are quite similar but yet they still have their differences. The differences that occur between the two are when it comes to money and taxes. Not-for-profit businesses do not make profit a priority, their focus is promoting the goods and services they offer. For-profit businesses rely on profit and their sole purpose is gaining as much profit as they can rather promoting goods and services they offer like not-for-profit. Tax implications are another major difference between the two. When it comes to filing taxes not-for-profit businesses are considered to be tax exempt because they are registered as 501(c)3’s. For-profits organizations cannot register as 501(c)3’s so they are required by law to pay taxes yearly. There are more than those two differences between the two but what they have in common is that a strategic plan is in place and that the best interest of stakeholders are part of the main focus. For-profit and not-for-profit strategic planning is the forefront for success because it helps them both achieve long-term and short-term goals within the organization. Keeping interests of the stakeholders also helps these two organizations meet both long-term and short-term goals but it also helps bring in revenue. Revenue is not the main focus for not-for-profit but it helps organizations obtain supplies and other necessities needed to achieve whatever goal the set. Program planning is designed to help answers questions like “What is necessary?” and “How is the necessary effective?” It also allows for program evaluations to occur that can be useful and help determine impact of quality of the initiatives delivered and whether or not the outcomes are effective for an individual or the community as a whole. The two most important elements in program planning are budget and time. I believe the budget is most important part of program planning because it is the foundation for the success. Stakeholders help play a role in the budget of a program but it is the job of leadership to ensure over spending does not occur and money is only spent on the necessities. The other element I thought was important for program planning is time. Time helps keep a schedule and ensures that a program is done within the time allotted and that there is not an indefinite time frame. The initial start of program should be set as a short-term goal and once that is reached it can be turned into a long-term goal because in the short-term time frame you can find areas of improvement and the successes that worked. Program planning is done in all areas in healthcare and has made numerous organizations successful in the forever changing economy. References: Adams, J., & Neville, S. (2020).
