One of the new legislative statutes that are being adopted in my state is the Office of Healthcare Affordability. The goals of this new office are to control healthcare costs while maintaining the quality of care delivered to patients and ensuring that accessibility is also achievable. The new law ensures that the Office of Healthcare Affordability can get healthcare data from various state agencies and healthcare institutions (
Galvani et al., 2020)
. The data is utilized to analyze the healthcare market to understand the driver of patient spending, purchases of services, lower healthcare costs, enforcing cost targets, and developing strategies that will be key in managing the affordability of healthcare services. The new law gives the Office of Healthcare Affordability the authority to review acquisitions, affiliations, and healthcare mergers
to restore that such transactions do not affect the cost and delivery of quality healthcare (
Galvani et al., 2020)
. The law also is keen on establishing the Health care Affordability Fund to expand and receive revenues collected. Some of the critical issues within the law include healthcare transactions where the law highlights that they will be under review in case they include sales, transfers, encumbrances, exchanges, conveyances, as well as disposal of assets that healthcare institutions own. The law also tackles essential elements such as clinical trials, telehealth, record keeping, and controlled substances. The law is broad, considering that it covers various issues within the healthcare setting. As a healthcare advocate, my role would be to respect and work within the confines of the law while delivering healthcare services. Also, I would use my position to educate my patients and other healthcare professionals. Advocating for the initiative would include creating awareness about its benefits and how well it impacts the delivery of care. References
