Lesson Evaluation
(Refer to your course syllabus/instructor’s directions for the format of your lesson reflection. Some EDU courses require essay format, following a specific rubric)
Reflections on Teaching & Learning: Your Lesson Evaluation should include EACH
of the following:
Decisions about the plan
Why did you choose to use these specific teaching strategies? I choose to do a direct instruction lesson. I have found out that this method works the best for my kindergarten class.
Which parts worked and which did not? Why? How does this impact your next lesson?
Overall, my lesson went pretty well. I did not receive any major negative feedback. The only thing I really need to work on is classroom management.
What multisensory methods or strategies did you incorporate into the lesson?
I allowed the students to come up to the board and interact with the lesson. I also had cubes for them to use so they could interact with me during the lesson.
Describe the modifications you made to the lesson for diverse students (ELL, gifted, RTI/MTSS) and the impact on student achievement.
Instead of having the children sit down the entire time I had them up and moving during the lesson. Evaluation of Student Response and Learning
How did the students respond to your lesson while you were teaching? Give specific examples. They were very responsive during the lesson. I even used some of the children as examples during my lesson so the other kids could visually see what I was talking about.
How engaged were the students during this lesson? Discuss what YOU did/planned that invited student engagement.
They were very engaged during the lesson. As I stated earlier, I invited them to touch the board and use the math cubes. For example, when we were doing the guided practice on the board, I had every student in the classroom come up to the board and solve a problem.
Based on evidence, how many students met the objectives appropriately? Analyze the specific results. What will you suggest and/or do for those who did not meet the benchmarks you set? How does this data inform instruction?
A majority of the students met the objectives. When I gave them the assessment, they were sort of confused at first but when I
explained to them what they were supposed to be doing a majority of them understood.
Evaluation of Differentiated Instruction
How did your strategies for differentiating instruction help all indicated subgroups of diverse learners? (Refer to the planned differentiation section of your template)
So, when I had some of the children come up to the board I had them solve the problem differently based on their skill level.
What would you continue to do? What might you do differently? I will continue to engage my students in my lessons. I have found out when I do this it keeps them interested in what I am talking about. Self-analysis of Teaching Performance
What teaching behaviors/skills did you use successfully? My university supervisor told me a strategy to use when I am teaching. Go over the instruction’s multiple times. The first time I taught I only went over the instructions once and some of the children did not understand what they were doing. So, I used the
strategy, and I explained it to them multiple times and the outcome was a lot better than the previous experience.
How might you incorporate these successful strategies within future lessons? I will continue to use the strategy my University Supervisor told me. I feel like it was good advice and it helped me tremendously during my last lesson.
What are the skills you want to improve upon based on feedback and/or your own analysis? How will you work on these?
Classroom management is something that I need to work on. I will use attention grabbers when I start to lose the students’ interest. Collaboration/Indirect Collaboration
Describe if there was any co-teaching, who was involved, and what responsibilities were shared.
There was no co-teaching involved. My cooperating teacher let me teach the lesson all by myself.
Describe if there was collaboration/ consultation required for successfully planning this lesson. With whom did you consult? What assistance was provided?
My cooperating teacher did help me plan the lesson though. She provided the materials and information that I taught, and she provided the materials that I used during the lessons. Discuss results of formal assessment, including specific data related to mastery of objective and suggestions for future planning.
For future planning I will make sure to manage the classroom better.
Explain how your use of a student assessment demonstrated that you met your learning objective(s)
With the student assessments that I provided for the students it demonstrated that I taught the lesson well and the students were able to use the knowledge from the lesson to complete the assessment that I provided. What is your most significant learning from this experience? I learned that teaching kindergarteners takes a lot of patience and adaptability. They were paying attention for a majority of the lesson but about halfway through I started to lose their attention, so I had to adapt and make sure I held their attention until the end of the lesson.
