BULLET POINT OUTLINE 1
Rutherford, Maria
Cognate: Healthcare Management
Research Paradigm: Positivism
Planned Research Design: Flexible Design - Single Case Study Proposed Title: Remote Style Monitoring Influence in Clinical Research
Task 1: Bullet Point Outline & CITI Certificate
BULLET POINT OUTLINE 2
Bullet Point Outline
The Problem o
The general problem to be addressed is the how can organizations adapt to remote
work resulting in an increase in organizational performance. o
According to Ozimek (2020), the organizational move to the increase of remote work in the workforce has yielded more positive results than anticipated. Such a working strategy has enabled organizations to hire the best talent, regardless of location and has improved overall productivity. o
Lojeski and Reilly (2020) explain the term ‘virtual distance’ and how this concept
has been increasing throughout organizations in the digital age. Solutions are available to bridge this gap among their employees to improve relationships. o
Schall (2019) investigate the relationship that exists between remote working and job satisfaction. The positive results suggest that the adaptation of remote work will directly impact overall organizational performance. o
Willcocks (2020) explains that a remote working environment is likely here for the long-term. There are many collaborative tools available to organizations that will aid in meeting set goals and objectives. While remote work may be unknown territory, it is unavoidable for organizations future growth due to the decrease in expenditures and its vast accessibility. o
The specific problem to be addressed is how can remote employee clinical trial monitoring be utilized in the Clinical Research Organization industry to possibly enhance employee retention and morale, improve the standard of site monitoring, and reduce organization expenses.
BULLET POINT OUTLINE 3
Relationship to Cognate: The proposed research is relevant to healthcare management as it could potentially assist clinical research organizations by providing direction on business practices that yield the best results for the organization. As remote work has become more prevalent in present society, it is imperative that organizations assess the impact that remote work can have on their work processes. Resistance to change in a competitive industry, such as healthcare, could pose negative impacts on the organization
goals and objectives.
Research Questions
o
RQ1: Why do Clinical Research Organizations fail to adapt remote work into their processes?
RQ1a. What actions or behaviors lead to success in the adaption of remote work processes?
RQ1b. What actions or behavior lead to failure in the adaption of remote work processes?
o
RQ2: In what ways does remote work initiatives differ from non-remote work initiatives?
o
RQ3: In what way can a remote working environment lead to success in organizational performance?
Nature of the Study
o
My research paradigm is positivism. As this case study seeks to utilize a hypothesis with the goals of testing such hypothesis through statistical measures a
positivism paradigm is the most appropriate choice. Positivism is consistent with the quantitative methodology as it utilizes measured variables as well as statistics (Kankam, 2019).

BULLET POINT OUTLINE 4
o
This study will be conducted with a flexible design using qualitative methods specifically, a single case study design will be used. The study will utilize a flexible design in which, as data is gathered the course of the study being conducted can be adapted (
Reichow et al., 2018).
This design type not only allows
for flexibility in the research being conducted but also allows for a change in the study samples (Thompson Burdine et al., 2021). The ability to change the research and its samples as data is collected is a vital component of the flexible design which will lead to an overall better understanding of how remote work can lead to successful organizational performance.
o
The methodology of a study is vital to the overall validity and reliability of the research conducted. This study will use a flexible design to allow for the ability to
adapt the study and the study samples as information is obtained. Specifically, a single-case study design is used to examine the relationship that occurs between an intervention and its outcomes. A qualitative method will be used as the observation of human behavior will provide dynamic data to the research.
Research Framework
o
Concepts
Remote work adaptation is necessary for positive organizational performance: This concept is related to the specific problem as the research suggests that adaptation to remote work is necessary and has positive effects on the organization’s performance and even its employee satisfaction.
BULLET POINT OUTLINE 5
Remote working environments lead to increased employee retention: This concept is related to the specific problem statement as the adaptation to remote working environments can improve employee satisfaction, increase
retention and thus increase organizational performance.
Remote work increases profitability and productivity: This concept is related to the specific problem statement as healthcare organizations may be more willing to adopt remote working environments with the understanding of profitability as well as an increase in organizational performance.
o
Theories
Maslows’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory: This theory is related to the specific problem as understanding how meeting the needs of employees by
adopting remote work can increase motivation and thus improve organizational performance.
Theory of Work Adjustment: This theory is related to the specific problem
by discussing how the relationship an employee has to their remote working environment can potentially improve organizational performance.
o
Actors
Executive Organizational Leadership: This actor relates to the specific problem as can be seen in the need for executive organizational leadership to understand the positive impacts that the adoption of a remote working environment can have on organizational performance.
BULLET POINT OUTLINE 6
Department Managers: This actor relates to the specific problem in that the success of failure of organizational performance in a remote working environment depends on the support of department management.
Colleagues at Clinical Research Organizations: This actor relates to the specific problem in that they are directly impacted by the organizations hesitancy to adopt remote work.
o
Constructs and Variables
Leadership Style: This construct relates to the specific problem as it directly impacts the organizations willingness to adopt remote work as a means to improve organizational performance.
Employee Productivity: The specific problem relates to this construct as employee productivity directly influences organizational performance and can be impacted by remote working environments.
Decrease Expenditures: This construct relates to the specific problem by discussing how remote working environments offer employees and organizations the flexibility necessary to decrease expenditures thus offering more motivation for performance.
