Stakeholders are people, groups of people or organizations
that have a stake or key interest in the decision-making
processes of a business or company. As in my case study,
there are a few key shareholders that may affect the activities
of the facility. One of the key shareholders is the local
residents and patients within the community who use the
AMC’s healthcare services. The hospital cannot function
without these individuals as they are the centrepiece of the
facility. In return, the patients and the local community benefit
from getting access to excellent health services from the
hospital. Another key shareholder may be the board of
directors and leaders of the hospital. This is because they play
an important role in managing the teams within the
organization, overseeing the overall operations of the hospital
and are vital in making important decisions for the
organization. The hospital staff which includes the doctors,
nurses and other medical staff who provide direct healthcare
services to the patients can also be considered as key
shareholders.
Choosing the right research tools for gathering data about the
population being studied is crucial as it determines the
credibility and reliability of the data and the research results.
In the case study, I could use national census data to
determine the demographics, population statistics and
economic background of Menifee. Additionally, local economic
reports posted on official websites could be helpful to learn
the socioeconomic status of the community. On the other
hand, local government reports and policies would help
understand the political climate and how politics affect the
healthcare industries in Menifee. Lastly, another research
method would be conducting local surveys to obtain direct
data from the community members about the challenges they
are facing in healthcare, their needs and what they may want
to be improved in the healthcare department.
As of 2021, the census data from Menifee, California shows
that the largest ethnic group is White (Non-Hispanic) with
43.6% and the least is Black or African American (Non-
Hispanic) with 6.22% (Data Usa, n.d.). There isn’t any major
health concern within the ethnic groups in the community. It
also has a large population of military veterans who served in
the Gulf War and Vietnam compared to other communities.
Therefore, the hospital needs to provide mental health
services and treatment centres to cater for this group of
people in the community. The obesity rate in Menifee is quite
high, rated at 24.5% as obtained from the City Data website
and hence, a serious concern as it may lead to health
complications such as diabetes, high cholesterol and other
heart diseases. Therefore, providing health care services that
cater for this in the new hospital will help cater for the needs
of the community at large.
