What are some strategies when handling change management on a health care project? What is the
impact of change? Provide details.
I spent some time going down a few sites in reading up on this after our own reading assignments for
this question. This site how to manage change in health care was interesting. "Change in our industry is a reality,
and as leaders, it's essential to manage the impacts of change for the benefit of the health care organization, the
care team and, most importantly, the patient." Being prepared for these changes can be vital for proper
progression for a health care project.
Some strategies to address on these possible changes:
Change is coming - be prepared
"Regulatory adjustments, shifts in consumer behavior patterns, the accelerated pace of IT development
and the aggressive rate of health care organization consolidation are all factors in the health care industry."
Increased rate of consolidation in health care organizations
"Create new partnerships, become part of an organization or affiliate with a larger organization"
Shifting patient/consumer behavior patterns
Focus on patient with providers engagement as more connected and personalized.
"Consumers want to be more involved in their health care decisions, and that means providers are
looking to innovative technology, informed patient engagement strategies and different organizational structures
to drive better patient experiences. These factors can result in disruptive, voluminous and rapid change."
Expect and accept change
"The first step in leading through such dynamic times is to expect and accept change."
In keeping consistently engaged with progressive changes instead of being dismissive of changes
promotes a more positive improved function within the business models being adopted or improved.
"Considering all the impacts in advance can provide a blueprint."
Be transparent, timely and frequent with communication
"Communication is the foundation of a successful change management strategy. Most important is
communicating the right content, at the right time, to the right stakeholder."
Be proactive and engage
and
Commit to thriving in change
"it's important to make personal adjustments, including learning new tools or processes as well as
adjusting your approach to be effective in a new landscape. Reflect and assess what may be required
operationally and personally, and then commit to making it happen. You can be part of the solution by focusing
on the goal and jumping in to help where you see it's needed."
Kotter's change management process has been mentioned numerous times here. I did not wish to
rehash the points already made but I find those 8 steps to be of more detailed comprehensive steps to follow
when implementing to our projects as change is needed or evolving. Lewin’s change management has three key
stages he calls, “freeze-change-refreeze." I find this to be of simpler fashion which may be sufficient for smaller
health care projects.
