She stated that she goes to the gym 2-3 times per week. This interaction differed to what we
learned in lab because in lab we are used to using manicans. This interaction was done with out
an instructor present to critique if I was handling the situation properly. I used a therapeutic
approach with the patient when she was telling me about her anxiety problems. I made sure I was
actively listening and used eye contact. She asked me how she can overcome anxiety and I
responded that she should definitely quit smoking, and not smoking can beneficially help with
PAD and her anxiety. I felt as though, I could have responded better with out judgement. In a real
life situation, I would ask my patient what their goals are and what techniques they use now to
overcome anxiety and what their approach is to living a healthier lifestyle and how we can
change unhealthy habits.
