DO25 Phase 2 Video Reflection
My reflection on insights I gained from forming my Advocacy Action Team and steps I
might take to enhance my skills in interprofessional team building.
Doing research for the key stakeholders was much more in depth than I thought it would be.
Really taking the time to figure out the key interprofessional stakeholders was the most
challenging for me. Trying to narrow down my advocacy action team, one that would be most
effective and helpful in moving us forward was very though provoking. There are so many levels
of government from city, county, region, state, and then there are areas of state government
specific to rural areas, it was challenging to narrow it down to who would be most effective.
Making sure you have the right people to help you achieve your goal is more difficult than I
imagined it would be.
A team needs to have trust and respect for each member, or it will never move forward
and reach the goal. The team building strategies I picked for my team are having a shared
purpose, mutual trust, clear and defines roles for all members of the team, effective
communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution.
My goal is to increase awareness of financial incentives for those seeking education for
advanced practice in nursing, like Nurse practitioner, to rural areas, to assist in increasing
opportunities for preventative care to diagnosis cancer earlier, decreasing death rates in my areas.
For what steps I might take to enhance my skills in interprofessional team building, I
think getting involved with my community by going to town meetings would be a great way to
get involved with other professionals outside of nursing. Hearing different viewpoints would
help with interprofessional team building as well as growing my emotional and social
intelligence.
