I believe that WebMD has both pros and cons. The pros include immediate accessibility, it can help
relieve anxiety from not knowing something and it provides access to some good stuff, like the journals
and data you mentioned above. Being able to look up symptoms and treatments instantly is absolutely
amazing, whether from your phone of laptop, it’s there. Having the information in front of you also
allows for your own personal bias to creep in. I have known many people to look at the possible issues
and automatically lean toward the one that they want it to be., which helps reduce concerns.
On the flip side we have the cons which include reliability of the information, invoking anxiety and
allowing for a false sense of security. Unless you are looking at the journals and peer reviewed
information, I feel that the reliability of the information is questionable at least. Like I was saying before
about anxiety, this can also induce anxiety for those who jump to the worst case scenario.
For me, WebMD is a source of information but it does not replace an actual professional’s advise or
diagnosis.
