HCIS 140T Fundamentals Of Electronic Health Records Wk 3 Discussion Discussion Topic As a medical records administrator , you have been tasked with continually checking the industry for new resources to improve your health organization’s method of electronically storing and sharing patient medical records. Research 2 or 3 electronic health care resources. Examples include websites, mobile applications, or multimedia resources used by health care consumers for their medical needs. Watch " Electronic Medical Records in Healthcare " to gain real-world insight about communicating in the health care field. Describe the websites, mobile applications, or multimedia resources you researched. Describe how health care providers use these resources to enhance their products and services. Explain the implications of using these resources in the health care industry. What are the implications for the consumer? Response Requirements By Thursday , respond to the question above in a minimum of 175 words. By Monday , post a total of 3 substantive responses over 2 separate days for full participation. This includes your initial post and 2 replies to classmates or your faculty member. I believe that WebMD has both pros and cons. The pros include immediate accessibility, it can help relieve anxiety from not knowing something and it provides access to some good stuff, like the journals and data you mentioned above. Being able to look up symptoms and treatments instantly is absolutely amazing, whether from your phone of laptop, it’s there. Having the information in front of you also
allows for your own personal bias to creep in. I have known many people to look at the possible issues and automatically lean toward the one that they want it to be., which helps reduce concerns. On the flip side we have the cons which include reliability of the information, invoking anxiety and allowing for a false sense of security. Unless you are looking at the journals and peer reviewed information, I feel that the reliability of the information is questionable at least. Like I was saying before about anxiety, this can also induce anxiety for those who jump to the worst case scenario. For me, WebMD is a source of information but it does not replace an actual professional’s advise or diagnosis.
