Kin 4250 Practicum Observation Report 1. Identify the number of videos demonstrating each profession. I.E., 7 OT, 8 PT, 5 AT, 5 APE. a. Occupational Therapy videos: 5. Athletic Trainer videos: 6. Physical Therapy videos: 6. Adapted PE video: 5. Exercise Physiotherapy videos: 2. Fitness Trainer videos: 1. 2. To the best of your ability identify the various sites/situations where the videos were filmed. I.E., studio, professional office, clinic, university, etc. a. Many of the videos filmed were taking place at specific facilities used to rehab or do physical therapy and athletic training. If not at these locations, the videos mainly took place at hospitals, clinic, doctor offices and universities. 3. Identify the age range of the participants in the video. I.E., school age, teen, young adult, geriatric etc. a. The ages of the participants and patients ranged variously. One video had a 4- year-old girl working with pediatric occupational therapists. Many of the adapted physical education videos had adolescent children and teens participating in various school settings. Other rehab videos showed middle aged to geriatric patients and clients. 4. Identify the disabilities observed in the videos. Describe FIVE (5) different interventions/adaptations that were used in dealing with these disabilities. Describe why and how these were appropriate for the disability.
a. Cerebral palsy; occupational therapists work with a young girl with CP to make home more accessible for everyday life. Trisomy 21; an occupational therapist shows a young boy with trisomy 21 how to brush his teeth. Autism spectrum disorder; alternative exercises for physical education for kids with ASD. Recovering stroke patient; intervention with instruments that help support arm muscles to increase range of motion in arms. Dementia; occupational therapists show dementia patient how to socialize and react to different social stimuli. 5. Identify FIVE (5) instances of feedback given to the clients in the videos. What type of feedback was used in these instances? I.E., positive, corrective, negative, intrinsic, extrinsic; What was the effect of the feedback on the client’s performance? a. VIDEO #7 in Log; physiotherapist gives corrective feedback to a patient to help improve their posture. The feedback helped client prevent injury. VIDEO #8 in Log; Adapted PE teacher gives positive enforcement for a child participating in his adapted PE program. The feedback helped the student feel encouraged. VIDEO #9; MLS athletic trainer gives intrinsic motivation for his players on the team. This feedback effects the players motivation. VIDEO #13 in Log; Athletic trainer goes over various workouts for basketball athletes. The AT gives extrinsic feedback after finishing each set. VIDEO #20 in log: Adapted PE for kids in wheelchairs. Positive extrinsic motivation is highly encouraged to use for the students. The feedback for these students is important and is always welcomed in a positive manner.
