case make you feel?
Opening Questions
How did you feel throughout the simulation experience?
This simulation experience was very helpful. I felt very confident doing the
simulation but took me 3 attempts to complete because on the first attempt I did not
use the gloves to assess the abdomen and on the second attempt I did not educate the
patient about pain management. I like how at the end I have feedback on what I did
wrong, and right, this helps me to understand better the steps to learn about the
procedure.
What do you think went well?
Assessing Sarah’s abdomen and knowing where hurt and how I help her gave me an
understanding of how the patient was feeling. I pretty much knew every step to
follow on the abdominal assessment.
Scenario Analysis questions
EBP: What assessment needs did you identify for Sara Lin?
Sarah had a pain level of 6/10; the abdominal contour was slightly distended. I was
able to assess the patient paint and inspect, auscultated, and palpate Sarah’s abdomen.
PCC: Discuss additional nonpharmacologic actions that would be appropriate for
managing Sara Lin’s pain.
The patient could be taught some breathing techniques that could help alleviate the
pain.
T&C: What preoperative teaching topics would be relevant to Sara Lin at this time?
Let the patient know when the surgery will be, not to eat anything by mouth, why
type of anesthesia the doctor will be using for the procedure, side effects, recovery
time and estimated discharge.
