Introduction Using SMART goals and emotional intelligence, I will develop a future development plan to help me grow as a leader. In that process, as I learn, I will develop a leadership coaching plan to help other new leaders evolve in their leadership skills and development. Personal Development Plan After taking the self-assessment and reviewing the feedback from my instructor, I have learned that I need to be more specific in setting specific dates and times with my timelines and goals. Often, I leave specifics out, assuming they will eventually happen so long as a plan is in place. However, I can see where I can fall short because I need more specific information about my background in my career and academics. I also need to include the wheel of life in my SMART goals. This is often challenging in fast-paced working environments, school, and other distractors. It is essential to emotional well- being and to live a healthy and full life. The wheel of life focuses on the main areas of life, such as health, career, personal development, finances, life enjoyment, contribution to society, relationships, and romance (Lynch, 2022). Completing and maintaining SMART goals is essential and often utilizes others. Such as sharing goals with others, celebrating wins, and asking others to critique your performance to see what they think went well and what you could have done differently (Leonard, 2022).
My first goal is to complete my M.H.A. classes by August 31, 2023. To achieve this goal, I must change my behaviors by setting aside dedicated time to complete my coursework and stick to it. I will also need to hold myself accountable to all timelines more than in the past. This will require me to better plan for other work and life events and take time for myself. By practicing these behaviors, I will train myself to prioritize better and my own work, along with coaching others to do the same. I can contribute to my company by excelling at meeting timelines and handling time management. Today, I keep my goals in different places depending on what they pertain to. I place personal goals in my Outlook calendar; for work goals, I use my whiteboard in my office; for group work projects, I use Microsoft shared drives, Teams, and SharePoint. Condensing this down to one mode of tracking would help significantly. By using Teams, I could have all my work, school, and personal timelines in one place to easily coordinate efforts allowing me to prioritize better. I often find myself using too many avenues of tracking, which causes confusion and poor planning. I will need to step back and methodically document and track instead of grabbing what is most accessible at the time. Personal Development Goal 1: Specific: Clearly define the goal. Is it specific? 1. Complete M.H.A. courses by the end of the summer. Measurable: How will you measure success? List two indicators. M.H.A. 1. Scheduling classes with identified beginning and end dates associated with each class identify capstone by the end of August 2023. 2. Passing all classes with proficiency or higher within the defined timeline. Attainable: What skills, knowledge, or resources do you have to accomplish the goal?

I have my bachelor's degree in healthcare administration and leadership which prepared me for my M.H.A. program. I have also been in leadership for almost 10 years in my organization. Lastly, I am in the M.H.A. program at Capella University. Relevant: What will be the result of achieving this goal? Will have a master’s degree in healthcare administration which will help advance me in my career and career goals. Time-Bound: What is the timeline to complete this goal? M.H.A. August 31 st , 2023 Reflection: How do you think achieving this goal will affect your Wheel of Life? By achieving this goal, I will improve my financial situation as I would be qualified for new positions which would advance me in my career. Also, I will likely be considered for leading new projects and groups with additional credentials. Year 1 Complete M.H.A. classes by August 31, 2023. Schedule courses remaining to be completed in approximately 1 month. My second goal is to create and hire a new Lead L.P.N. position in my Urgent Care department by July 1, 2023, to start the new fiscal year. To achieve this goal, I must hold myself accountable to all timelines and ensure my human resources department completes their tasks orderly. This will require me to be accountable not only for myself but for others as well. I can contribute to my company meeting the timeline and have someone in the department who can focus on tasks
such as inventory, education, and day-to-day questions to give me more time to dedicate to my other duties. Today, I hold myself accountable for my own work and manage more tasks than a manager typically does in my field of work. Following up with others involved in creating and hiring this position ensures timelines are met, and goals are achieved. A Lead L.P.N. will contribute to a better functioning department and employee and patient satisfaction. Personal Development Goal 1: Specific: Clearly define the goal. Is it specific? 2. Create a new Lead L.P.N. position in my department by the end of the fiscal year. Measurable: How will you measure success? List two indicators. 1. Create expenditure requests for approval of position for my department. Goal to have approval by May. 2. Post Lead L.P.N. position and have the position hired by June 30. Attainable: What skills, knowledge, or resources do you have to accomplish the goal? Lead L.P.N. position I have created new positions in my department in the past. I have a solid knowledge base about the financials, needs, and workflows to support the need for the position. Additional leadership support is needed because it is a department open 7 days a week, 12 hours a day. I am not available as a resource all the time. Relevant: What will be the result of achieving this goal? L.P.N. position I will have more staff support and be able to delegate some responsibilities making more time for other tasks in my position. Time-Bound: What is the timeline to complete this goal? Lead L.P.N. June 30 th 2023
Reflection: How do you think achieving this goal will affect your Wheel of Life? Lead L.P.N. Position Improve the environment, personal development, health, and career. Year 1 Create a new Lead L.P.N. position and have it hired by July 1, 2023. Year 2 Review the job description to ensure relevancy and adjust as needed. Evaluate if another Lead L.P.N. is needed. Year 3 Continue to job review the same as the previous year and so forth. My third goal is to obtain a new position as a director in my organization. I am a clinic manager and have been in a management position for the past 10 years. This position could be in my department or other departments within or outside my organization. To achieve this goal, I will need to change my behaviors by actively seeking new employment or working within my own department to determine if a director is needed and what steps need to be made to create that position. I will also need to hold myself accountable for knowing the demands of the positions I apply for since they could be within areas I have not worked in before. I must know their mission, service lines, notable achievements, size, and other attributes. I will also need to keep a compiled list of achievements of my own, keep up on this task, and keep my resume up to date at all times. By practicing these behaviors, I will be better prepared to apply and interview for a new director position, hopefully landing me a new and exciting career. I can contribute to my company by filling one of its open positions. Today, I update my resume infrequently,

contributing to losing track of past accomplishments, experience, and other relevant information. I need to keep up to date on my progress in this manner to avoid losing sight of what I have done throughout my career; therefore cannot speak to them on my behalf. Having this information at the forefront of my mind will also assist with the interview process to have an effective conversation about my skills, goals, and potential contributions. I would not have polished and well-thought-out answers if asked about these items. Personal Development Goal 1: Specific: Clearly define the goal. Is it specific? 3. Obtain a new position as a director in my organization. This position could be in my department or other departments outside my organization. I am a clinic manager and have been in a management position for the past 10 years. Measurable: How will you measure success? List two indicators. 1. Receive an interview for the position applied to. 2. Receive an offer for the position. Attainable: What skills, knowledge, or resources do you have to accomplish the goal? I have 20 years of healthcare experience and 10 years of leadership experience. Relevant: What will be the result of achieving this goal? I will have a more rewarding and challenging role. This will contribute to my overall happiness and engagement in my career. The organization I work for will also benefit from all I have to offer with my experience, education, and talents. Time-Bound: What is the timeline to complete this goal? Director May 2023
Reflection: How do you think achieving this goal will affect your Wheel of Life? My personal life would improve by having a rewarding position I am proud to be a part of and by being rechallenged and improving my mental health and overall health! My finances will improve as I will increase my annual salary. I will keep my seniority and P.T.O. accrual rate if I stay within my organization. Lastly, my personal development will benefit from the new challenges within my new role, where I can set new and healthy goals—improving the environment of my new department too. Year 1 Complete M.H.A. degree. Search the job market for a position. Apply for the position and interview. Obtain position. If a position is not obtained, request feedback. Year 2 If a position is not obtained, continue the previous steps. Ensure resume and references are up to date. Continued market research. Ask for peer feedback. Year 3 Continue as the year prior. Coaching Coaching others in behaviors to help them achieve success in their own goals is a significant part of leadership to ensure team growth, their potential is met, and the staff is in the correct positions for themselves. Successful coaching starts at the top. All leaders need to be educated on the importance of coaching and how to coach successfully. Find out where everyone is in their coaching skillset and work as a team to develop their coaching skills. Ensure
everyone understands the importance and benefit of coaching and what it brings to the organization (Robertson, 2015). We will also need to identify the roles of coaches, participants, and executive sponsors to better organize the coaching process. Human resources often fill a role of a consulting coach acting as a neutral party gathering data from the participants, usually staff, and reporting back to executive sponsors, usually leadership, to help develop a plan for improvements and goal setting (Robertson, 2015). By having a neutral party for data collection, the participants will be more at ease, allowing them to give open and honest feedback. Also, participants must review what their executive sponsor or leadership is doing correctly for them and what they need to improve on to ensure their success and prosperity. It is essential to ensure a consistent plan for all participants to ensure equal opportunities and reliable, measurable outcomes (Robertson, 2015). With the data collected, develop a plan outlining their strengths and goals. When presenting this information, come forth with it as an opportunity associated with goals to be celebrated later rather than something to improve on strictly. Allow time for the participants to provide their feedback. Review with them what you, as their leader, will do to assist with their success in goal planning. Setting measurable outcomes with timelines will need to be determined to track success. This also gives the participants clear expectations of the following steps, when follow-up will occur, and what their successes genuinely mean. These can be set for both the participant and the leadership. An example would be to find a personal task of self-development and assign stages such as identifying the task, the steps to achieve the tasks, and what successful outcomes would look like while assigning dates to all of them. Follow-up meetings are also a great way to

discuss if the participants are meeting their goals and if they have noticed a change in the behaviors in the organization and gauge their happiness in their work (Robertson, 2015). Executive sponsors will set specific times to meet to discuss the successes and where improvements could be made in their assigned areas to help develop future strategies and learn from one another. Also, to be held accountable for their own goals. Lastly, always be transparent and ensure everyone that the purpose of this coaching is not to find fault but to create success and plan for future happiness and prosperity within the organization.
