Nathan, Great post this week! I found it very informative and really enhanced this week’s discussion board. I thought that you gave a really good example with tracking outbreaks in real time, that is probably one of the best ways I have seen to utilize data visualization. Being able to track an outbreak in real time and watching what areas are being affected the hardest is a great idea. Also, the predictive modeling works as an extension of interactive maps when tracing data in real time. I look forward to reading more of your discussion boards. Dillon There are many ways that data visualization can be used within biostatistics. It allows for researchers to easily spot patterns within data through use of scatter plots, heatmaps or histograms. These patters may be more easily overlooked if it were presented as just numerical data. Data visualization can also be useful in monitoring health trends. Using interactive maps helps with tracking outbreaks in real time, and seeing in which areas are more impacted by the outbreaks. Predictive modeling is something that utilizes data visualization. By using data visualizations, it allows for more accurate assessments and more accurate models for disease outcomes. A final example of how data visualization aids biostatistics is exploratory data analysis. Before conducting statistical analysis, using data visualization tools helps with exploring data distributions and spotting outliers withing the data. It can also help show the relationship between variables within the data. Abudiyab, N. A., & Alanazi, A. T. (2022, November 11). Cureus. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9741729/ Keesha, This was an excellently thought out and written posts this week. I believe you brought great insights and made it easier to understand this week’s topic. You did a great job at explaining what data visualization is, how it’s used and why its important. I like how you broke down what kind of data sets went best with what type of visitations. I think that you bring up a very important point, of managing the amount of information presented in a chart of a graph. I think you also gave a great reference to help support your discussion. I look forward to reading more of your posts. Dillon Data visualization is used all the time in biostatistics and research trials. Graphs and charts are often used to show the difference in values of studies that have been done. Researchers must be able to see differential values and data points in relationship to each other to compare and analyze the results. This can also show where data analysis has folks or outliers. It can be beneficial to set data into charts or graphs, depending on the research and multiple to compare each other. Apparent differences and measurement visualizations can be shaped to whatever is helpful for the data and research being done. Graphs or charts
are easier to read with only a few data points, like pie charts, whereas bar and line graphs can be used for many data points. It is essential to determine which data is in which visualization chart to display and make it easy to understand. When it comes to any research or data containing charts or visualizations, many complications can fall among these, but there are also many good techniques. The axis/ columns must be clearly labeled and scaled and make sense of what is described. It is also essential to make sure that there is a manageable amount of information being displayed; if there is too much info for one chart, condense it or create multiple. Colors are an excellent way to display data among bar graphs or pie charts. However, only use one or two distinct colors and other muted colors so that there isn’t too much going on that the reader gets lost or confused. References: Bush, K., & Burns, E. (2022, December).
