Chapter 2 Discussion Hello Everyone, A lot of information can be taken away from chapter 2. Health has always been black and white to me so what caught my eye was the concept of holistic health which emphasizes the well being of what makes a person whole and complete (Shi & Singh, 2019, p.48). When approaching holistic health there are multiple things considered before a diagnosis and treatment those being the mental, emotional, spiritual, nutritional, environmental, and other factors. You also need to look at the risk factors that could lead to the development of disease. Which are the attributes that lead to the likelihood of developing a particular disease or negative health condition (Shi & Singh, 2019 p.49). One area to look at would be there behavior that could’ve led them to developing a health issue. Examples being smoking, and substance abuse. Another thing to consider are health determinants. In 1974 Blum proposed an “Environment of Health Model” later called “Force Field and Well Being Paradigms of Health” (Shi & Singh, 2019, p.62). He proposed there are four major factors contributing to health. Those being environment, lifestyle, hereditary, and medical care. All these things must be taken into account when addresses someone’s health issues. Public health is a vital aspect of health. Public health deals with societal concerns about ensuring conditions that promote optimal health for society as a whole (Shi & Singh, 2019, p.56). Public health plays an important role in the health care system because it provides health protection to society. Health protection is one of the main public health functions (Shi & Singh, 2019, p.57). Environmental health has played a large role in protecting us from the spread of disease using water, air, and food. Which was very interesting to me because I always believed the only way to prevent disease was through science rather than our environment. References Shi, L., & Singh, D. A. (2019).
