Running head: FBA & CONSULTATION REPORT Functional Behavioral Assessment & Consultation Project Report By Nayeli Bautista Ball State University February 13, 2024
Running head: FBA & CONSULTATION REPORT Reflection #1 I do have prior experience in conducting a functional behavior assessment. I currently work at a private school that provides ABA therapy for individuals with Autism ranging in ages from four to twenty one. I have worked with the behavior analysts on staff completing functional behavior assessment with new student’s upon intake. I have assisted in completing these assessment and interviewing parents about their child’s behavior. I have also been interviewed for a functional behavior assessment for student’s I have worked with. Most of the functional behavior assessment I have been involved in have been extremely helpful and provides pertinent information about the topography of the problem behaviors. I hope that this functional behavior assessment project helps me build confidence in running the assessment alone without having a supervising BCBA there to help me. Consultee Information The consultee in this functional behavior assessment is the client’s mother. The client lives with both mother and father however father is at work most of the time and mom is the primary caretaker for this client. The mother has experience being questioned for functional behavior assessments and grants consent to proceed with this assignment. Student Description and Context The student is a seventeen year old male who was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at the age of five. This student is verbal as well as uses sign language for when other’s are having difficulty understanding him. This student suffers from seasonal allergies and besides that does not have any illness or injury history at this time. This client does not have any

The FBA and intervention will take place in the client’s home. The client lives at home with mother, father, and sister. Additionally, he does have a nanny that comes approximately twice a week and will often take care of the client if mom or dad are busy with work. Consultee Interview 1: Needs Identification Student: Client X Interviewer: Nayeli Bautista Date 2/14/2024 Grade: 11 th Respondent: Mother Nayeli: Hello, we are here to ask some questions to gain insight of the function of your son’s behaviors. Can you tell me a little bit about the dynamic of the household and who the client primarily spends the most time with. Consultee: Well my husband is normally working and I work part time so I am mostly home with him asides from some help from our nanny that comes a maximum amount of twice per week. Besides his father and I we also have a teenage daughter that is two years younger than my son. We have noticed he is non compliant with completing household chores. Additionally, his sister will often go in his room and “borrow” his charger or record player. My son gets extremely upset when his sister takes his stuff so much that he has been hitting her. Interviewer: Can you describe these behaviors of non-compliance and hitting his sister? What are some examples?

Running head: FBA & CONSULTATION REPORT Consultee: Every Sunday he has a list of chores he has to complete and he has been non- compliant. His dad used to take him out for Sunday lunch however his father has been busy on Sundays lately so has been unable to bring him to lunch. In regards to hitting his sister, anytime his sister takes any item of his he will use profanity with his sister. His sister will yell back at him and he will hit her if he becomes really upset. He has hit her with an open hand and has punched her. He does not pull her hair or do anything else he will just hit her with an open or closed hand. Interviewer: Do these behaviors primarily happen at home? Has he been non-compliant or aggress towards anyone at school or in any other settings? Consultee: He does not have any problems listening to directions in school. He is allowed a computer break once all of his tasks are completed and he loves his YouTube so he doesn’t give them a hard time. In terms of aggression, I have never heard of him aggressing towards anyone at school. There has been times he has gotten physical with my daughter in public. One time my daughter took his headphones without his permission and he didn’t realize she had them until we got to the super market. He slapped her arm and screamed “don’t touch my stuff stupid” in the middle of the store and there were many people there to witness the whole encounter. Interviewer: How often would you say the non-compliance and aggression occur throughout the week? Consultee: He has been non-compliant with chores almost every Sunday for the past couple of weeks now. When I remind him that it is time for Sunday chores he starts screaming and protesting which can last from a couple minutes to hours at times. His chores will not get done on Sunday unless I threaten to take away his computer. It’s hard to say with the aggression
Running head: FBA & CONSULTATION REPORT because it really is only when she takes his things which can vary with these teenagers. I would say typically once a week. Interviewee: Can you tell me what happens after he is non-compliant with his chores or when he is aggressive with his sister? Consultee: Normally if he is non-compliant with chores I will threaten to take his laptop away and he will yell at me and often curse at me but I ignore it and he will eventually complete his chores so he doesn’t lose out on his laptop time. After he hits his sister she will normally start yelling back and then he will hit her and then I make them apologize to eachother. Interviewee:
