What is the role of teacher-led questions during inquiry instruction? Provide an example of a question a teacher can ask students during a specific science or health lesson to explain your answer.
Inquiry lead instruction can be a great opportunity for teachers to check prior knowledge and gauge students progress throughout content areas. Theses questions can be used to prompt students into activating their prior knowledge, critical thinking skills or prompt for more engagement. "By modeling good questioning and encouraging students to ask questions of themselves, teachers can help students learn independently and improve their learning (Corley & Rauscher , 2013)." Some examples I might use in a Science or Health lesson might be in the content area of nutrition. What do you know about the food groups? What do you consider healthy and not healthy foods? Why? What are some ways we can keep our body healthy? These questions allow me as the teacher to see what my students do and dont know along with help guide me on what the best direction might be for teaching my content.
