QUALITY IMPROVEMENT REPORT 2 Quality Improvement Report Introduction Quality improvement integrates critical processes that aid in the improvement of the qualitative aspect of health care services through the application of unique ideologies and methodologies. The precepts governing the quality improvement includes strategies that utilize data in improving health care; emphasizing critical patient outcomes and needs, engagement with participants through re-affirming the significance of direct inclusion and participation of individuals implementing the process being evaluated. Therefore, concerted efforts should be placed process analysis and systems reinforcement. Framework of Quality Improvement The qualitative aspect of healthcare is an integral component of organizational framework on quality improvement. Foundational frameworks of quality improvement in healthcare include the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) and supporting the improvement of HIV services among others. The selection of an optimal framework includes the evaluation of multi-dimensional performance appraisals such as concerted focus on improving the immunization rates or consistent performance appraisals of various aspects of healthcare (Chasin, Leob, Schmaltz & Watcher, 2010). Stakeholder Definitions of Quality Improvement Different healthcare stakeholders have distinctive and varied perspectives on quality of care; which subsequently leads to varied, quality metrics. Significantly, apparent relationships between past experiences, stakeholders, distinctions in the definition of qualitative care and expectations impact the measurement of quality improvement. The Role of Patients and Clinicians in Quality Improvement
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT REPORT 3 In order for quality to be improved in healthcare, a number of issues must be addressed including the enhancement of morale and motivation. Therefore, the maintenance of morale, enthusiasm and motivation is essential for the long term improvement of healthcare. In light of this, healthcare managers should seek the development of an organizational culture that involves clinicians in efforts of quality improvement (Chasin, Leob, Schmaltz & Watcher, 2010). These initiatives should encourage the participation of local healthcare organizations in working alongside clinicians in an effort to foster unity of purpose in health and patient care delivery. Meanwhile, healthcare delivery infrastructures should be improved significantly through national initiatives aimed at the re-invigoration of clinical audits including the formation of improvement partnerships in healthcare that promote improvement initiatives headed by clinicians. There are significant benefits derived from the national healthcare infrastructure aimed at supporting comprehensive application of clinical audit (Paradise, 2004). This is inherently a critical aspect of healthcare infrastructure. Additionally, quality improvement efforts should be perceived as an integral aspect of daily job routines and a core component of healthcare. Consequently, the unity of purpose and alignment of goals among managers, clinicians and patients is critical for the implementation of an effective, quality improvement strategy. The need for Quality Management in the Health Care Industry Quality management ensures that preventable deaths are reduced as much as possible. The decrease in mortality rate in healthcare is a critical indicator that quality improvement initiatives are functional (Paradise, 2004). Additionally effective management of healthcare fosters patient trust; hence increased profitability since patients are confident with the healthcare system.

QUALITY IMPROVEMENT REPORT 4 Areas That Need To Be Monitored Healthcare integrates complex processes; therefore, comprehensive monitoring is required to determine the effectiveness and efficiency if healthcare delivery processes. Significantly, detection of potential problems and implementing corrective procedures ensures that problems are prevented before they occur. Healthcare procedures, diagnostic systems and medical practices should be monitored and upgraded on a constant basis in order to improve the quality of care. Roles of Various Regulatory and Accredited Organizations Various healthcare organizations such as the Joint Commission on accreditation of healthcare organizations are critical for the maintenance and development of medical quality standards (Paradise, 2004). A significant number of medical institutions use accreditation organizations with the aim of ascertaining that defined quality standards have been fully met. The organization accredits and evaluates healthcare institutions including ambulatory centers, healthcare centers and organizations. Helpful Resources Helpful resources and organizations such as Medicaid and Medicare services function in alignment with healthcare providers. This enables the provision of critical services such as efficient, qualitative and cost effective care for individuals with low incomes, the aged and disabled people (Sebelius, n.d.). The Center for Medicare and Medicaid services (CMS) establishes various levels of reimbursement, healthcare standards and envisions the modernization of the health care industry. Meanwhile, the Center for Disease Control has a significant role in monitoring and controlling infectious diseases and provides assistance to various local and international

Additionally, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is among the organizations that aid in quality improvement of various products. Particularly, the FDA is responsible for the approval of drugs before their authorization for human applications. Therefore, it establishes standards for testing drugs, blood and biologic products, vaccines, approval of new products, medical devices and clinical trials of various drugs (Sebelius, n.d.).
