The Healthstyle: A Self-Test was designed to help people recognize how healthy they are based on six different sections. These sections include cigarette smoke, alcohol and drugs, eating habits, exercise/fitness, stress control, and safety. I will be discussing my results of my self-test. I
gave cigarette smoke a score of ten out of ten. This implies that I refrain from smoking completely. Since I avoid alcohol and drugs as well, I also received a score of 10. Eating habits is
where it could have gotten complicated, but I also received a 10 because I recently changed my diet. My biggest weakness is working out and staying fit. Here, I received a 6. I exercise, but I don't think I work out as often as I should, and I'm not really consistent about it either. This year, I want to work on this as much as possible. My stress management is actually good; therefore, I got a ten. I always seem to find a method to keep from feeling overwhelmed. Finally, I never play around when it comes to safety. To protect myself and everyone around me, I always attempt to abide by the laws and guidelines. According to the CDC, adults should aim for a combination of aerobic and strength-
training activities. Specifically, they should engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity per week. (CDC, 2020) Additionally, they also recommend incorporating muscle-strengthening activities. Although there
is always room for improvement, I do feel as if my current lifestyle aligns with the guidelines set
forth by the CDC, and I consider myself physically active for several reasons. A couple of those reasons being that I have incorporated some form of exercise into my routine, I prioritize daily movement, maintain a balanced lifestyle, focus on healthy nutrition, and seek regular medical advice to ensure I am following CDC guidelines for a healthy lifestyle. If I had to choose two barriers to change or to work on, it would be exercise/fitness and my eating habits. If I set 1
specific goals when it comes to those barriers, I feel like my consistency will progress and I will achieve the goals set. To enhance your longevity and overall well-being, it is crucial to identify and modify specific behaviors based on your lab results. There is always room for improvement or to do better in life. For starters, I definitely plan to make more changes when it comes to exercising and my fitness journey. Specifically, my consistency is what really needs to be better. I am active
throughout the day, but I would like to do a set number of exercises daily to make more of a difference. Although the results for the other sections of the self-test were great, I can still improve more in those areas. That means eating healthier and maintaining a balanced diet, keeping up with managing my stress levels, and continuing to stay safe on an everyday occasion.
The top three leading causes of death are heart disease, cancer, and unintentional injuries. A diet heavy in cholesterol, trans fats, or saturated fats, combined with a lack of physical activity,
excessive alcohol use, and tobacco use are lifestyle factors that can lead to heart disease. (CDC, 2023) Certain lifestyle activities, such as tobacco use and sun exposure, are known to cause cancer. Other factors that can have a significant impact on cancer risk and diagnosis include what
and how much you eat, how active you are, and how much alcohol you drink. (Why Cancer, n.d.)
Unintentional injuries, often referred to as accidents, are a public health concern worldwide, accounting for a substantial number of fatalities and disabilities each year. These injuries result from various causes such as “motor vehicle collisions, falls, drownings, burns, and poisonings” (Unintentional, n.d.), highlighting the importance of implementing preventive measures and safety regulations to mitigate their occurrence.
Incorporating a holistic approach to health and fitness involves understanding and addressing various components of fitness, performance, and wellness. Cardiovascular capacity, 2
