The park does not render much waste as there is entirely one garbage can at the entranceway to the trails. The Water Reclamation Facility houses
the only buildings on the property that would necessitate electric energy as well as water. The Hawks RV strip is simply a parking lot and an
airstrip for students to contribute their remote-controlled airplanes to so it does not require any additional power or water needs.
What are the differences in land cover for each site?

.
The obvious difference is green-space usage while the park utilizes approximately 82.4% for green-space the shopping area only uses 1.8%. The
next largest discrepancy is in the buildings and parking. The success of the shopping plaza is predicated being able to support and entertain a large
amount of people. 75.5% of land space is dedicated to buildings and parking with close to a 50/50 split. The green area only utilized 1.3% for
parking and almost all that was for the Water Reclamation facility. The green area did not require a measurable area for waste and utility as the
shopping center uses approximately 8.7% due to the many businesses and residences that operate there.
How is storm water drainage handled at each location?
The green space handled storm water through biological cycles as it is a nature maintain. Rainwater makes its means into the lagoon that feeds into
the Great Miami River. The shopping center has multiple storm water drains as well as a system of gutters and outlets from the roofs of the
buildings to flow heavy rains into the storm water drains. How is energy used at each location?
What are sources for stormwater runoff contamination?
Entirely the Water Reclamation Facility requires energy to function in the green space. Its building necessitate the power to work the machinery,
the processes and filters the water out and back into the river. The park itself requires no power needs. The shopping center requires massive
power needs. Not only do all the businesses require power to function lights, escalators, computers, stoves, ovens, fryers, refrigerators, and
freezers, but there are as well the needs of the residential apartments and hotels that utilize power for the daily routines we all have.
Sources of storm-water runoff contaminant are very much more plentiful at the shopping center. Because there is thus much asphalt and rooftops
the storm-water can convey with it very much more pollutants containing nitrogen and phosphorous. Any type of waste not properly disposed of,
chemicals used to handle the shopping complex’s green areas, oil and other fluid leaks from vehicles in the parking lots can all turn sources of
storm-water runoff contamination.
Summary
Visiting the Liberty Center and the Riverside Natural Area, I would not have guessed there was such a large discrepancy in land size. Perhaps,
because in Riverside Natural Area I am sticking to the trails while at Liberty Center virtually every square foot is packed with some enterprise.
The areas serve two different and significant roles to the community. The Riverside Natural Area provides a wildlife refuge, an area for the
community to colligate with nature and exercise outdoors. It too plays a significant role in that it houses the Water Reclamation Facility, which
cleans the river water of the Great Miami River, the water source for entirely the residents. In addition, it also has the Hawks RC area, University
property allowing for technical education of remote-controlled devices.
The Liberty Shopping Center is to a greater extent densely packed with a multitude of shopping options, restaurant options, movie theaters,
apartments and hotel. I like the I like the idea of these multi-use areas because they take up less land use which could signify that there is to a
greater extent land for nature to be restored, but it also means that people don’t need to travel as far to meet their entertainment, shopping, living,
and working needs which cuts down on possible vehicle emissions. If communities can go along to create multi-use land including the nature
preserve/water utility that are or the live/work/play area of Liberty Center, we may become more efficient at mitigating environmental impairment
as our population grows.
