Passage 1:
The Northern Lights, also known as Aurora Borealis, are a natural phenomenon that occurs in
the polar regions. These breathtaking displays of light are caused by the interaction between
charged particles from the sun and the Earth's magnetic field. When these particles collide with
gases in the Earth's atmosphere, such as oxygen and nitrogen, they emit colorful light. The
most common colors seen in the Northern Lights are green and pink, although sometimes
purple, blue, and red hues can also be observed.
Passage 2:
Mount Everest, standing at a staggering height of 8,848 meters (29,029 feet), is the tallest
mountain on Earth above sea level. Located in the Himalayas on the border between Nepal and
China, Mount Everest has captivated adventurers and climbers for centuries. Despite the
extreme weather conditions and treacherous terrain, thousands of climbers attempt to reach its
summit each year. The first successful ascent to the peak of Mount Everest was made by Sir
Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953.
