Module 2 Assignment – Planet Zindau
1.Where will the
significant lines of latitude
(equator, Tropics, Circles) align on Zindau?
Based on the provided information for Zindau, the equator (fixed point on all planets)
would be at the center of the plent; the center line of latitude. This would start at 0
degrees. I have estimated that the Tropics would be at 35 degrees north/south. Lastly,
the Circles would be 55 degrees north/south.
2.How will the equal distribution of land and water affect
seasonal temperatures
between
the hemispheres relative to the perihelion/solstice and aphelion/solstice?
Perihelion is when Earth is the closest to the Sun and Aphelion is when Earth is the
furthest from the Sun, both within a relative year. This occurring on Earth, with the tilt
and distance, will cause solstices to occur on the days Perihelion and Aphelion are
happening. Zindau has a 35 degree tilt so it’s solstices will occur oppositely. The
Perihelion will be in the winter solstice and the Aphelion will be in the summer solstice.
Because of the equal distribution of water and land on this planet (much different ratio
than Earth at 70% water and 30% land), the seasonal temperatures will be of an equal
temperature on both hemispheres.
3.How does the increased tilt affect critical components of seasonality across the latitudes
as compared to Earth?
a.
How would the
daylight period
be affected across the latitudes through the
year?
Daylight period would be affected with having a 24 hour daylight period
because of the difference in it’s tilt.
b.
How would
beam spreading
and depletion be affected across the latitudes?
During Perihelion, northern hemisphere will receive more energy and light
than the southern hemisphere, and then during the Aphelion it is the opposite.
This goes the same for Earth but on Zindau because of the dramatic tilt, the
levels of energy and light are drastically greater.
c.
How would the
solar angle
incidence be affected across the latitudes?
Solar angle incidence would be affected across the latitudes more dramatically
than earth. The location of the solar angle is closer to the Circles and Arctic,
instead of the Tropics. This goes for both solstices.
4.Calculate the winter and summer
solstice solar angles
for a point existing at 45 degrees
north latitude. Are there any
other aspects
of Zindau/Sun relationships that would be
affected? If so, what are they and how would they be different from that of Earth?
The calculations for Perihelion are the following: ( 90 – 45 ) + 35 = 80 degrees.
The calculations for Aphelion are the following: ( 90 – 45 ) – 35 = 10 degrees.
5.Describe
seasonality
through the year for both hemispheres.
As with almost every scenario in this, it is very similar to Earth but on a more dramatic
and drastic level. For Zindau, the northern hemisphere on would have VERY cold
winters without sunlight and the southern hemisphere would have VERY warm
summers because of the extreme levels of hear and energy from the sun’s proximity.
