Mission statement: Homelessness in Los Angeles My mission is to give the homeless people of Los Angeles a safe place to stay, to rehabilitate into a productive member of society General Overview and Rationale Homelessness is a problem everywhere from Lynchburg, to New Orleans, and Los Angeles. Now some places homelessness is not as bad as a problem but some places like Los Angeles it’s a big problem. Despite the organizations helping the homeless there are still about 18% of people homeless in Los Angeles. Now there is many reasons why someone might be homeless. They could have been dealt a bad hand in life and never got onto their feet, or they were incapable of working, but most likely they fell into a substance addiction. My goal is to tell the homeless population of Los Angeles about programs that will help substance abusers to sober up and get back on track with their lives. Region Relevance Los Angeles is known for its beautiful city and big time people living in that area. Los Angeles is located in California which is on the Southwest of the United States. One of the reasons Los Angeles is so nice is because of the proximity to the pacific ocean. Some beaches are as close as 15 miles from Los Angeles. I was lucky enough to go to Los Angeles for a week with my Grandparents and we were about 30 miles from the beach. Another thing Los Angeles is know for is palm trees. Going down the coast you see hundreds and hundreds of palm trees. Los Angeles is located right next to the San Andreas Fault. It is dangerous for people with homes being this close to a major fault, much less the homeless. The crime in Los Angeles is higher at
the state level and national level. You have a 1 in 31 chance of being a victim of a crime in Los Angeles. So, Los Angeles is not the safest and most comfortable place to be when homeless. Location Relevance Los Angeles is a very big city. It has a population of almost 4 million and has 502 square miles. In those 502 square miles Los Angeles is dominated by businesses in the inner city and as you get closer to the beaches you start seeing less beaches. The most recent demographics I found was 52.1% White, 8.1% Black, 14.7% Asian, and 1% Native American. Los Angeles is a very expensive place to live. One reason for that is the weather is very nice more days than not. The median household income in Los Angeles in $77,465 which is not very good considering the by Unknown Author is licensed under

median household sold is about 1 million. Los Angeles relative location is towards the southeastern portion of California. The coordinates of Los Angeles is 34.03 N and 118.15 W. Place Relevance Los Angeles the heart of Southern California has been a world class visit site for some time now. At the beginning of the 20 th century Los Angeles was considered a large village. Not to popular for visitors to visit, or businesses to be. Los Angeles has been known for its beautiful climate for a long period of time but what made Los Angeles a place where people wanted to visit was the amount of celebrities that wanted to live there. There is hundreds of very high end celebrities that live in Los Angeles and that along with the climate has made Los Angeles an ideal destination to live and visit. This has also made the prices go way up to where a medium sized home is over $1 million. Movement Relevance My mission will have to move products and move people, to be successful. This can be difficult in Los Angeles though. Because there is so many people living here and so many people visiting traffic can be really bad in some times of years. The average commute time is about 30 minutes which depending on the time of day can be much more. Some ways the homeless and my organization workers could get around this is by taking public transportation, or riding bikes, or even walking. Walking may not be an option however because many places in Los Angeles would be a long walk. You also have to assume that these homeless people might have not had the best education systems back when they were in school. Our workers will hand out a pamphlet and read and explain the pamphlet so the people who can’t read can understand. For the goods
that will need to be delivered, the only thing that will need to be delivered will be the pamphlets so one of the leaders of this organization can bring them in or some other workers. Human-Environmental Interaction Relevance With California located on the San Andreas Fault cities in California are prone to experiencing many earthquakes a year. In the past year the Los Angeles area has experienced 565 earthquakes. The majority of these earthquakes are very small and your able to continue doing your everyday activities. However with California being close to a major fault they will have some major earthquakes. The worst earthquake in this past year in Los Angeles was a 5.1 magnitude but a really bad one in recent memory was 7.1. After that earthquake fires broke out throughout the town, the town had many gas leaks, buildings were destroyed, and people were without power. This led to multiple death of the homeless along with people in buildings when they collapsed. Budget The budget is pretty cheap. To make all the pamphlets, to advertise, and to get people to the meeting the budget will be around $1,000 for the first year. Summary Homelessness is a big problem in every city. Some cities that have had a homeless problem like New Orleans has gotten better. That is not the case for Los Angeles. The unsheltered homelessness rate went up 14% from 2022 to 2023. With all the earthquakes and crime happening here it’s not the safest place to be homeless. It’s also very difficult to purchase a house in Los Angeles due to prices. Also these homeless people of Los Angeles are likely substance abusers. This drives my mission to help the homeless people of Los Angeles by giving them
useful information to help them rehabilitate and get these people back onto their feet. If this could happen this would make Los Angeles a much nicer and cleaner place.
