EXTRA CREDIT FOR TEST 1 (5 pts) In complete, grammatically correct, sentences; answer the following question with justification(s) for your answer. One sentence won’t cut it. Keep your answer to NO more than 500 words. Which tidal cycle has the greatest effect on marine organisms living in the intertidal zone? The intertidal zone is home to marine organisms such as sea stars, snails, seaweed, algae, and crabs. Barnacles, mussels, and kelps can survive in this environment by anchoring themselves to the rocks. Barnacles and mussels can also hold seawater in their closed shells to keep from drying out during low tide. Organisms in the intertidal zone are adapted to an environment of harsh extremes. Water is usually available regularly with the tides but can vary from fresh with rain and river flows to highly saline and dry salt with drying between tidal inundations. The tidal cycle that has the greatest effect on marine organisms living in the intertidal zone are high tides due to the action of waves dislodging residents in that zone.
