Reflection Topic Assessment Criteria Element 1: Did the student present information about main water pollutants in his/her community and the possible causes of water pollution? Grade (max 10 points): 10 Feedback: The student mentioned that he lives along a river system, and that there is often a lot of visible garbage in the water, but what is more worrying is that there are also a lot of chemicals in the water, and he/she pointed out all the causes of pollution where he lives, citing some examples such as Nutrient pollution from fertilizers, E-coli, Plastics, Solvents and Petroleum. Element 2: Did the student compare the findings from his/her community with other community and discuss the findings? Grade (max 10 points): 7 Feedback: The student explained that agriculture and fertilizer use in his/her community makes the community he/she lives in more polluted than other communities, but the student did not provide the details of a discussion of these findings. Element 3: Did the student list at least two skills or interests that could be applied to helping improve water quality in his/her community? Grade (max 10 points): 7 Feedback: the student mentioned two things he would do if he had resources to help improve water quality in his/her community, which would be to build walks and places so that people could walk and not use cars, and another thing would be to plant plants with large roots to help in the absorption of polluting nutrients, but in my view the first option that the student mentioned would help the environment, but more precisely the air than the water. Element 4: Did the paper meet the length requirements of at least 700 words and include a word-count? Grade (max 10 points): 7 Feedback: The entire work, not counting the reference, has 506 words, so the student could not meet the minimum requirement made by the teacher, which is a minimum of 700 words and a maximum of 900 words, but he put the word count.
Element 5: Writing includes proper spelling and grammar, and is clear and understandable. Grade (max 10 points): 7 Feedback: In the whole work there is only one word written “grammatically” which is the word environmentally at the beginning of the first paragraph, but there were some other mistakes like not putting commas after several words. Element 6: Does the paper include an introduction and conclusion? Grade (max 10 points): 10 Feedback: The work was done with introduction and conclusion, as required by the teacher. In the introduction the student explained the environment we live in and how polluted it is and what we must do to improve it, and thus improve the world for future generations. In the conclusion he reaffirmed his ideas regarding planting plants to help pollution in his community. General comment: The work was very well done, most of the questions were answered according to what was required, there were only some tasks that did not necessarily meet the requirements, such as the number of words, and some grammatical errors already punctuated. Even though this does not necessarily interfere with the understanding of the work, they are mistakes that must be avoided in order to have a successful journey in college. APA EXERCISE 1. What is the title of the webpage? Water pollution is a rising global crisis. Here’s what you need to know. 2. Who is the author (or who are the authors)? Note: an author can also be an organization. The Center for Disease Control is an example of an organization that is the author of a webpage. Christina Nunes.
3. What year was the webpage published? Note: if there is no date, you can write “n.d.” instead . Published March 16, 2010. 4. What is the URL of the webpage? https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/article/freshwater-pollution 5. Using the information from #1-4, write the APA reference for the webpage you found. The reference goes at the end of your work, after all of your writing is finished. Nunes, C. (2010, March 16). Water pollution is a rising global crisis. Here’s what you need to know. National Geographic. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/article/freshwater-pollution 6. Now, let’s write the in-text citation, to use at the end of a sentence you are writing. In-text citations are always (Author, Year). Using the information from #5, write the APA in-text citation for the webpage you found. According to Nunes (2010) “ Water pollution can come from a variety of sources. Pollution can enter water directly, through both legal and illegal discharges from factories, for example, or imperfect water treatment plants. Spills and leaks from oil pipelines or hydraulic fracturing (fracking) operations can degrade water supplies. Wind, storms, and littering—especially of plastic waste—can also send debris into waterways”,
