Researching the Solution
The problem that I have wanted to bring attention to in my hometown is the limited public transportation that is available to the residents. Currently my city offers two forms of public transit that consistent of a ride share program and highly limited busing between three cities. The ride share is a restricted service that expects the consumer to call in and schedule their
ride. After that, the time slot they’ve secured can allow the driver to be 10 minutes early or late when picking up the passenger and they do not have to be dropped off first and can end up on the
ride for around 30 minutes with others being dropped off before arriving to their own destination.
While the limited busing that goes through my hometown and the two cities next to it, there is only about 4 bus stops and the pick/drop off about every 2 hours and available for about 8-
10hours of the day. These conditions are why I feel that city council needs to find a better public transit option for the city. A solution I’ve of this predicament around town is ride companies like Uber and Lift be utilized throughout the city. While this is a great solution for cutting time a passenger would have
to wait for the cities ride share or find a way to one of the limited bus stops. The price of these rides are only really available to those who can afford the cost. Many find the price and tipping of these ride companies to be quite expensive for everyday use. From the research I’ve done this

solution doesn’t seem to be a benefit long-term, with the current public transportation being around 3-5 dollars round trip. This article from graduate of a University in Canada agree with “The accessibility benefits of ride-hailing accrue mostly to high-income groups due to affordability barriers. These findings suggest that policy efforts to integrate rideshare with transit are likely not going to benefit low income communities without some form of subsidized fare discounts to alleviate affordability barriers”(2023), since these are privately owned companies the chances of low income housing getting any form of discount or assistance is low. The best solution that I believe my city deserves is a fixed bussing route and system. Even though the city is smaller compared to other Ventura country cities. Camarillo is going steadily and are in need of more transportation readily available. With having a fixed route in place the city and surrounding areas become more available to residents without vehicles and this
form of transit is more affordable for everyone. I recently read a Government document about the importance of public transit and I feel that the reasoning still holds today. With having a stable and vital link of transportation for smaller cities or rural areas is crucial (Rahall,2002). While I do see this as the best solution long term for the city. Getting a fixed bus route for the city would take a lot of time and resources. The sources that I did use above where from Google scholar and the ASU library, while I do trust the articles that I read and referenced. Although I find only parts of the articles fit with what I was looking for my paper. There useless is great for boosting my stance on the project but doesn’t full show stance I was looking for.
