Reflection Questions
1) Learning to conduct research is important because it is a skill you will use both
in academia and in your professional life. It improves critical thinking and empowers you to find information for yourself. Consider the process of researching as a whole. What was the most challenging aspect of the process for you? (2-3 sentences)
For me, the most difficult aspect of the research process was putting together and organizing the massive amount of information obtained. Maintaining concentration and understanding throughout the study process was also challenging at times.
2) The working thesis statement is a proposed answer to your research question. It should clearly identify a debatable topic and take a position on one side of that topic. Analyze the effectiveness of your working thesis statement.
I discovered that my working thesis statement addressed the dual influence of social media on mental health successfully. It takes a strong stance, highlighting the necessity of understanding the link between social media use and mental health in order to foster a healthy online environment. This provides the foundation for an in-
depth study of the difficulties surrounding social media's impact on mental health.
3) A detailed outline is an effective tool for laying out the progression of an argument. It allows you to consider the arrangement and organization of your ideas, as well as choose places to incorporate outside source materials. Review your detailed outline and summarize the argument you've presented.
According to my outline, the argument provided is around the dual influence of social media on mental health. It dives into the positive and negative effects of social media usage, emphasizing the need to comprehend the relationship between social
media and mental well-being for the purpose of encouraging a positive online environment. The framework also emphasizes the use of outside source materials to support and improve the stated argument.
4) You will use the same topic on three of the remaining Touchstones in this course. What kind of feedback would be helpful for you? What are specific questions you might have as you go deeper into the research process?
Feedback that would be helpful to me would evaluate the importance and simplicity of my argument, the comprehensiveness of my research, and the effectiveness of my use of source material. Specific questions I might have as I progress through the research process include how effectively I'm including both positive and negative aspects of social media's impact on mental health, whether there are additional trustworthy sources available that could enhance and support my argument, and how I can ensure a balanced investigation of the topic within the boundaries of the assignment.
