You will respond to the prompt in 2 parts: a thread of at least 300 words in response to the
discussion prompt, and a reply of at least 150 words to a classmate’s thread. Each thread, reply,
and cited reference must follow current APA format.
You must show respect and sensitivity toward varying opinions and ideas presented.
Furthermore, you are expected to respond to all questions posted by your instructor and/or
classmates in your thread, even if you have already posted your reply to another candidate’s
thread.
Following the guidelines provided in your textbook, develop a purpose statement and a corresponding research question for a topic in education that you are interested in researching. Next, discuss the theoretical background for this topic and why you are interested in examining this specific topic.

Post-First:
This course utilizes the Post-First feature in all Discussions. This means you will only be able to read and interact with your classmates’ threads after you have submitted your thread in response to the provided prompt.
Submit your thread by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of Module 2: Week 2.
Every successful research paper starts with a successful purpose statement and corresponding research questions. These guide the researcher to literature that either substantiates or refutes the questions at hand. The purpose statement is the bedrock upon which the entirety of the research is based and without a concrete and thorough purpose statement, a synthesis or analysis of the literature and any statistics will make the research incohesive. The purpose or problem statement
ties the entire research project together and is critical to its success.
The topic I would like to investigate is that of the success of charter schools in comparison with public schools. The success criterion upon which the efficacy of charter schools is that of college
acceptance and completion of a degree program.
Are charter schools the solution to America’s education crisis?
Purpose Statement:
In the academic realm, the question of charter schools is a highly debated one. While most educators acknowledge that there is a crisis in the education system, one that is constantly debated socially, politically, and professionally, the solution is hard sought after and charter schools are often identified as one of those solutions.
Research Questions
:
Do charter schools graduate students at a higher rate than traditional public schools?
Do charter school graduates complete their college education at a higher rate than traditional public schools?
The reason I am interested in this topic is the ongoing debate that is a constant topic for discussion. I have often wondered why, if charter schools are so effective, do they seem to exist only in underserved neighborhoods with high levels of poverty and socioeconomic challenges? If the charter school ideal is so successful, why are they more urban than suburban? What are the
racial and ethnic implications for black and brown children compared with their white counterparts? ‘
Most intriguing, attending a charter school means attending a better performing school in high-poverty areas but a lower performing school in low-poverty areas.’ (Logan, et al, 2016).

Reply 1: Your investigation is very interesting. Although I have never taught math, I have observed that my son has always felt more at ease in math classes than my daughter ever did. (Both are now college students). There has always been assumption that girls struggle harder in math than do boys, and I find it fascinating that there is research that connects math and anxiety or the lack thereof to student-teacher relationships. Your research states that creating a positive classroom environment could lead to lowering anxiety and that seems reasonable, though I would have never imagined that there was such research having been done. That attachment theory was indicated as an area of investigation also indicates that the student-
teacher relationship is important, and I would never have connected it to math anxiety.
Additionally, I would like to comment that I really appreciate the manner in which you laid out your discussion post. It is concise and I appreciate your effort and example!
