Module Three Journal
The purpose of my research is to highlight the cons of four-day work weeks. My goal is to help readers understand a few of the many ways that four-day work weeks would negatively affect society. My research should ultimately persuade those who come across it that working only four days out of the week is not as great as they may initially think. My research will speak on the point of view of almost everyone who plays a role in a business’ success or downfall, so each role can know how they would be negatively affected by a shortened work week. Research Question: Are four-day work weeks actually beneficial?
Based on my research, the potential answer to my question is that four-day work weeks are not actually beneficial.
While my agenda is to persuade people against four-day work weeks, the sources I chose to use for my research do not imply any sort of bias, they are essentially 50/50.

. Accessed 7 Feb. 2023. “Pros and Cons of a Four-Day Workweek.”
The first resource I listed speaks on some of the pros and cons of four-day work weeks. It
supports my topic by touching on how four-day work weeks will not work for every business because some businesses work with customers that communicate directly with their employees
and expect them and the business’ sources to be available five days a week. A business like that making themselves unavailable on that fifth day could lead to a decrease in clientele, as they would prefer to work with a business with wider availability. Which ultimately leads to a decline
in revenue. This article helps to answer my research question by shedding light on one of many reasons why four-day work weeks are not as much of a good thing as they may seem. “Pros and Cons of the Four-Day Workweek.”
The second resource I provided speaks on some of the pros and cons of four-day work weeks. It supports my topic by bringing light to some ways in which employees would suffer from four-day work weeks. A four-day work week would consist of spreading 40 hours over four days instead of five, which would translate to longer workdays. The alternative would be to continue to have eight hours each day, for four days, but this would mean reducing weekly hours and in correlation, reducing pay. So as an employee of a company with a four-day work schedule, you would be faced with either longer workdays or less pay. This article helps to answer my research question because it lengthens the list of reasons a four-day work week would not be beneficial for everyone.
“Study: The Evidence Overwhelmingly Says 4-Day Work Weeks Are Good for Everyone.”
The third source I provided assists my topic in that it is implying there are staffing needs for nurses to have a healthy and reasonable patient-to-nurse ratio. This is important for the quality-of-care hospital patients receive. While this is a statistical article, it strengthens my case by highlighting the fact that patients are already falling short on care with the number of staff members already available for the original number of workdays throughout the week, four-day work weeks would only worsen that issue. This backs my point in that four-day work weeks would not be suitable for every business. It also strengthens my point that while four-day work weeks may sound good to employees, patients or customers would have to suffer. This article helps to answer my research question because it pulls readers attention even further to some of
the cons of four-day work weeks.
All the sources I provided lack any specific bias towards either way that my research question could be answered. That lack of bias allows readers to see both the good and the bad sides of four-day work weeks. This could of course impact my argument in either way, it could have a negative impact because readers are being shown four-day work weeks are not all bad and the articles could even open their eyes to some positives that they didn’t see before, and that could sway them in the other direction. Precisely vice versa, seeing the negatives could have the same
yet opposite effect. Upon reading the articles, it will simply come down to what the readers feel outweighs the other, with all the information and aspects provided.
