Describe the area where the school is located (rural, suburban, city, town). Discuss the cultural and socio-economic make-up of the area. ⁃
The school is nestled in a suburban town of Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Cherry Hill is quite an affluent place to live. It is a place where many people go to start a family. It is 71.1% white, 6.6 black and 13.5% Asian American. There are 10.8% students are eligible for free and reduced lunch and 4.2% are English Language Learners. •
List any special features of your classroom setting (charter, co-teaching, themed magnet, bilingual, classroom aide, etc.).
⁃
The classroom is set up for all learners to have a visual view for optimal learning. It is bright and safe environment. It displays all of the students work and is able to have a comfortable and functional flow. The desks are there for working together and can be moved easily as needed. Students are seated also in a way that help them learning, behaviorally and to help with any impairments. There are designated areas for learning.
•
Describe any district, county, school or cooperating teacher requirements that would affect planning or delivery of curriculum.
⁃
The Cherry Hill schools district uses an overall curriculum for all of their schools. They use a Rubicon Atlas curriculum platform. They use Common Core, Blueprint for Student Success and Eureka math. Common Core exists with both Math and ELA shifts. Eureka math is a curriculum that is scripted with the idea of I do, We do, You do. It incorporates everything that a teacher may need to build up to reach the objective of the lesson. •
How much time each day is devoted to literacy instruction and identify and instructional programs or materials/resources?
⁃
The school has over a couple hours a day that are given to ELA. The curriculum provides a script for teachers to follow so that they know what the goals and the objectives are. I think that it helps to have the idea to lesson plan if the curriculum is given and spelled out for them. Each teacher gets a prep period and also has time to pre during specials that the students attend. The teachers are always working with each other and it is good to see that you are never alone if you are stuck on ideas.
•
Describe the academic ability of the students in the class.
⁃
The academic ability in the classroom is a spectrum. There are many students that are able to work fast and can process the information quickly. Then there are students who are in need of a little more attention but are quick to get back on track. There is a solid foundation classroom management. There is a good level of behavioral and classroom management. Some students need specific interventions and pull out as well. •
List below any students that have required supports or accommodations. List the number of students with an IEP, 504, specific language needs, gifted, struggling readers, second language learners.

How does a strong knowledge of the state standards assist in creating effective lesson plans? ⁃
A teacher needs to have knowledge of the state standards in order to reach the goals and objectives of the grade and the curriculum. It will help to create lesson plans and to set up their students for success as they move up each grade. It is also important to know the standard for state tests. •
Based on the standards, what are you motivated to teach and what seems to be a challenge for this grade level? ⁃
I am motivated to teach and put my skills in differentiating lessons for an all inclusive classroom. I feel that in 5th grade you are beginning to set up the transition from elementary to middle school and it is important to have the students feel the success in their learning no matter where they are intellectually. Challenges are going to be building the rapport with the students so that they begin to trust me to take over and teach them for several weeks. •
How do your host teacher and your school use standards for planning? ⁃
They must plan their lessons based off of the state standards so that they know they reach the goals towards the end of the year. They need to reach certain benchmarks to get ready for the next grade. •
How do the class demographics and students’ physical, social, emotional, moral, and cognitive development affect planning lessons to address all students' needs?
⁃
It is important to make sure that every students feels their place in the classroom. The teacher has set a safe environment to where students are able to feel their emotions and get to express themselves if something is wrong or bothersome at school or sometimes at home. Lessons need to be broad and have a little bit of everything for each student and their individual needs. •
How might these demographics and student needs impact planning lessons to address all students’ needs in an online learning environment? ⁃
I think the demographics of this specific school would not be an issue in an online learning in terms of being able to get the equipment such as computers or iPads. I believe the hard part would be making sure students log on and that they are completing work. It is also hard to monitor what they are doing on the computer. That would need to be taken care of as well. •
What does a teacher need to know about his or her students in order to make adjustments to lessons to support learners better? ⁃
Any kind of interventions, IEPs, 504s, behavioral plans and home life. They need to be aware of the students previous academics and what if any significant moments have occurred in their life. •
How does the teacher know that students have achieved the learning goal(s)? ⁃
Based on progress monitoring, benchmark testing and chapter tests the students can show mastery on the lesson objectives.
