1. Over the past thirty years, post-secondary tuition rates in Canada have increased dramatically. Had tuition grown at the rate of inflation, the average in 2019-20 would have been only $2,541. What is the actual average tuition today? To answer this question, quote the highlighted passage from paragraph 1. Free tuition would redress a massive intergenerational inequity created over the past 30 years. In 1990–91, average university tuition in Canada was $1,464; adjusted for inflation, that would be $2,541 in 2019–20. Today the actual average undergraduate tuition is $6,463. A generation that gave itself tax cuts and paid for them in part by dramatically increasing tuition has imposed a substantial economic burden on the generation that came of age after 2000. 2. According to Hugh Mackenzie, what is the ultimate goal of providing free post- secondary tuition? To answer this question, quote and cite a select portion of this highlighted passage from paragraph 3. Higher post-secondary participation rates are associated with higher living standards, better health outcomes and enhanced social and community engagement. Every Canadian is better off. Remember that you can quote a select portion of any sentence from the source text to best fit the purpose and construction of your own sentence.
