1 kjk ENGL-2332.T02 31 August 2022 1. Using a Google search, locate one reputable professional source. In 75+ words, explain how you know this source is a professional source connecting specifics from the source with the criteria covered during the lecture. The New York Times Magazine titled “The Immortal Myth of the Unicorn” is an example of a reputable professional source for these five reasons. Firstly after skimming over the article, it was apparent that the source was written for a wider audience. I can tell this by the short paragraphs and understandable content. Secondly, the article used less heavy head vocabulary common to professional sources. Thirdly, this article included a visual design of a unicorn. Fourthly, this paper sparsely uses quotations and does not contain works cited page. Lastly, we know this is a reputable professional source due to the content coming from New York Times Magazine. 2. Create a "good faith" effort attempt at creating the prompt 1 source's APA 7 reference following the guidelines for a "Webpage or Piece of Online Content." Rao, M. (2021, August 17). The immortal myth of the unicorn . New York Times. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/17/t-magazine/unicorns-culture-myth.html
2 2. Using a Google search, locate one source that might seem to be reputable at first but doesn't align with the professional source type criteria. In 75+ words, explain how you know this source isn't a professional source connecting specifics from the source with the criteria covered during lecture. - I know that the website I found is not professional because although it looked reputable at first, it did not meet all of the criterias. It was a page written by a writter and it is a personal page. It is not found in reputable newspapers, magazines, etc. Along with that, the only visual design elements I could really find was her different youtube videos attached to the pages. The biggest factor was that there is no editorial board because she is the only one writing in her website. 3. Using the Collin College Library Academic OneFile (Gale) databases, locate one reputable professional source. In 75+ words, explain how you know this source is a professional source connecting specifics from the source with the criteria covered during lecture. We know that The Washington Post source below is a reputable professional source because of its tone, content, and layout. Although this article has language that is specific to current pop culture appeals, as well as Greek mythology, it is still a language that is easy to read and understand. The article covers some more intense themes and concepts from Greek mythology, but it approaches them in a well-mannered way that could be read by 8th grade levels
3 or above. The article content is conversational as it is telling a story, with a shorter paragraph set up, but it is still professional from a reputable newspaper, The Washington Post. 4. Create a "good faith" effort attempt at creating the prompt 4 source's APA 7 reference following the guidelines provided in class lecture. Miller, M. (2015 May). Columbia students claim greek mythology needs a trigger warning . Gale Academic OneFile. Using the Collin College Library Academic OneFile (Gale) databases, locate one reputable scholarly source. In 75+ words, explain how you know this source is a scholarly source connecting specifics from the source with the criteria covered during lecture. The elements in the cosmogonic myths of the world nations by Margarita Arutyunyan, Natalia Solovyeva, and Olga Evreeva is a scholarly source found through the Collin College Library Database. We know that this source is a reputable scholarly source because it contains multiple long paragraphs of research-based information at a 10th grade and higher reading level. This is an informative source that uses proper grammar and formal tone that details the complexity of various world mythology readings. Throughout the text, there are multiple in-text citations that connect to the hyperlinks pasted in the article. The author provides their own thoughts on their research and connection to world cultures and the historical background of their myths. This academic source does not include any graphics or charts along with the writing. Lastly, this scholarly article was published on a website related to the studies of world literature.
