Based on your current favorite choice for a topic/debate within the course theme announcement , answer the following: A. State your stance within the debate you chose, without using “I.” (1 sentence) The excessive use of social media platforms by teenagers has negatively impacted mental health, so instead of banning teenagers from using social media platforms, focus should be on guiding teenagers to use social media platforms for academic growth and development. B. Why is your stance a good one for an argument research essay? (at least 3 sentences) My stance is a good one for an argument essay because there are two possible basic stances, that teenagers should be banned from using social media or that they shouldn’t. Also, there is an existing problem which is the negative impact of excessive social media use on teens. In addition, I suggest teenagers to be guided on how to use social media which can help in promoting academic growth and development. C. Who might disagree with your stance and why? (at least 3 sentences) I think those who will disagree with my stance are mostly parents who have witnessed their teenage kids go through depression and in the worst cases committed suicide because of social media. Also, anyone who has witnessed a sibling, family member, or friend who is a teen going through a negative mental health situation because of social media. I think they will disagree based on their experiences. Nevertheless, I will do more research to dig out more opposing stances. ©2021 Chamberlain University

D. Who do you imagine your audience will be? (at least 2 sentences) I imagine my audience will be the public, particularly parents with teenagers. This is because I believe parents have a better role to play in guiding their children on how to better use social media platforms. II. In a full paragraph of 7-9 sentences, and without performing any research, please note what you already understand about the debate and what you do not already understand about the debate: I already understand that many people go into depression and end up committing suicide because of social media. I know this is common among teens because most are still young and are unable to handle their emotions. I also know social media is used to connect with people all over, helping to keep in touch with family and friends. Also, I know social has been used to share some helpful tips which has saved lives, and has also been used to advertise schools, scholarships and for learning. In addition, I understand parents are in the best place to guide their children in using social media, but I don’t understand how they can manage that. Furthermore, I think banning teens from using social media will only cause them to miss exploring many beautiful things the world has to offer. III. Shortly, you will begin scholarly research in the library. This research will help you find opposing viewpoints (sources that disagree with you) and supporting viewpoints (sources that agree with you), as well as information to fill in missing gaps in knowledge you may have.
