Question 1 of 2
If your teacher is Deaf, imagine for a moment what it must be like for your instructor to be teaching this class? If your teacher is not Deaf, try to imagine how your classroom experience would be different with a Deaf teacher?
I think that it might be difficult at times for our Deaf instructor to teach a class to hearing people because we sometimes do not understand the most respectful way to handle certain situations that may arise when interacting with a Deaf person. I think for a lot of people, an ASL class might be the first time they meet a deaf person and they might unintentionally be insensitive which could be frustrating for a Deaf instructor. Question 2 of 2
What can you do to make the classroom environment positive for your teacher?
I think it would be the most respectful thing to do to make a conscious effort to not use our voice
because this is not only ruining the ASL immersive environment in our classroom but is also restricting access of communication to our instructor.
