Writing Assignment #1 – Three Personas
2
a summary of the persona, including the persona’s name, occupation, and age
goals for the persona: why the persona would want to accomplish the task on the web that you will be describing in writing assignment #2
potential problems or unique situations: for the task that you are describing for writing assignment #2, describe what frustrations, challenges, pain points, or unique needs that the person might have in completing the task.
For each persona, you must list
at least one pain point that the person experiences when navigating a website or
at least one special situation that requires attention in your set of instructions.
Persona #1
JoAnn McCormack, 65, is a retired federal employee from the Social Security Administration in Woodlawn. JoAnn is educated and is married to Bill. Bill and JoAnn own a single family home in Severna Park, which no longer carries a mortgage. She has a government pension coming in each month. Bill and JoAnn’s 2 kids are grown and raising families of their own. Many of JoAnn’s friends have retired and moved away, but Bill and JoAnne have no intention of moving out of the area since both of their children have settled in the surrounding area. This has left JoAnn with free time on her hands and she is seeking an activity that would allow her to make new friends. JoAnn is in good health but has no desire to sling a 12 pound ball down a lane, fortunately SP lanes has Duck Pin lanes, where the balls are lightweight. Severna Park lanes are busy and the parking lot is well lit, meaning JoAnn would feel safe. JoAnn would need to rent shoes and use house balls. Cost is not really a concern.
JoAnn lives only a few minutes away. She is not tech savvy and feels the website may be intimidating trying to locate a mixed league, with both men and women, and needs to be age appropriate, a senior league, where she can meet people similar to her age and situation. Preferably a daylight league, a night
league doesn’t interest her. She will go to the alley and talk to someone to get more information and possibly join a league in person. Persona #2
Mike Brady is 42, and fancies himself a very decent bowler. Mike bowls in 2 other very competitive leagues and would like another night of practice to improve his game just a little more, so that he can

begin to excel in his other leagues. Mike has a steady job with regular hours as a manager of a local large
chain department store. Mike is married with no kids and lives in the Arnold, MD area, 15 minutes from the Severna Park lanes. Mike know his gear! He has a Hammer bag with wheels that carries his Dexter bowling shoes, a toolkit for ball cleaning and thumb protectors, and 2 custom drilled, 15 pound, Hammer 10-pin balls, one for dry lanes and one for oily lanes. Mike would be a single bowler and will need to hook up with a team needing another bowler.
The league does not need to be sanctioned but needs to have some decent bowlers to challenge him. Mike’s schedule is tight, he knows how to navigate the web and needs the SP Lanes website to find display what nighttime/evening leagues are available that suit his needs. Mike would like an account that will update him on future tournaments and leagues that need fill in bowlers.
Persona #3
The Davis family
consists of Mom(39), Dad(39) and 2 teenage kids(14 & 15). With everyone’s busy schedule, they would like to join a winter league to have a family night of fun each week and to get them through the winter months, when outdoor activity is limited. They need a reasonably priced, weeknight league that doesn’t go too late into the night. They would like to meet at the alley and grab a pizza, snacks, soda’s and a pitcher and have fun just hanging out with each other. Good Wi-Fi at the alley
is a must and there must be room for friends to come and hang out. An arcade area is necessary as well. The Davis’s will use the website to find a weeknight mixed league of 10-pin bowling. Traffic in Severna Park is terrible up to 6pm, so after that is a good starting time. They will need a league that can add a complete, 4 person team. The kids are obviously tech savvy and have no issues navigating a web site.
