Saturday, August 6, 2022 I had identified the three issues the writing tutor focused on when I submitted my paper to the Writing Center. The most focused issue was not expanding more on the topic sentences, adding sentences to the paragraphs, or adding transition sentences. Sentence structure is a weakness for me. The second most focused issue is using in-text citation correctly and adding in- text citation when using information from a source. I am still trying to fully grasp the usage of in-text citations, where to put them, when, and how to format them. Even though I had read many resources on properly using and citing sources, I still struggle with them—lastly, I made a couple of grammatical errors. I use the Grammarly app on my computer and always check it before submitting, so I am not sure how it missed that I capitalized “district manager” or that I put a period before and after the citation instead of only after the source. This was the only surprising issue because I thought Grammarly checked my work while I was typing. I have learned that I still need to submit my work to the Writing Center before submitting it for a grade. It would also be helpful to make the revisions and submit them to the Writing Center for feedback. Another thing I have learned is that Words in document grammar/spelling checker are sometimes different than Grammarly. Sometimes one will say something is wrong, or wording needs to be changed, or punctuation needs to be added or removed, but the other will not. The comments and feedback are helpful, and I will continue using the Writing Center in the future. I know that the Writing Center is a great resource to help my success at UAGC. When submitting my assignment to Grammarly, it only came back with one issue/suggestion: wordy modal phrases. A phrase in my paper was unnecessarily wordy, and it was suggested I replace the phrase with a similar alternative. When scoring my essay, it suggested it was a bit bland but does not offer suggestions for making my writing more specific
Saturday, August 6, 2022 or interesting to keep my readers engaged unless I get a premium account. I will continue to use the free Grammarly account because it is one of my favorite resources given by UAGC. I enjoy having an app on my computer that helps recognize incorrect verbiage, helps rephrase sentences, or reminds me when I forget to add a comma.
