Written Assignment 5 Globalization (University of the People) Writing Assignment Unit 5 Ali Shuaib (Instructor)
What is womenonics, and why is this an important term to discuss in Jordan’s employment of female workers? In the readings for this week, we learned that the term "womenonics" was coined by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who is credited with coining the term (Jaber, 2014). The word was coined to emphasize the role played by women in the development of economic countries, mainly through participation in the professional area and the labour market. According to a World Bank report, women accounted for half of Jordan's labour force in 2005. By keeping these individuals out of the marketplace, Jordan's economy suffers a significant setback in its development (Jaber, 2014). What are some interesting findings from the Arabic textbooks used? Why did you find these to be interesting? The Arabic writings were fascinating to read through and grasp their meaning. The one that struck out to me was under the heading "The Reproductive Profile." I was under the impression that it was censorship of reproductive systems, but I was mistaken. It was discovered that grade 9 vocational textbooks listed "wife" as a source of stress that a person must endure. This just blew me away. Indoctrination at such a young age will instil a negative attitude about women that will last a lifetime, making them appear as sources of anxiety (Jaber, 2014). Another thing that struck me was the portrayal of vocations to differentiate between guys and girls. This was something I had not expected. Likewise, I was taken aback by this because there are no distinctions between jobs for men and women in other countries, such as mine. Every student has the freedom to make their own decisions. However, to make the best selection possible, it was vital to consider work opportunities following high school graduation as a criterion. Today, this discovery in the Arabic texts contributes to the segregation of jobs based on gender in the modern workplace. It is necessary to alter the situation before progress (Jaber, 2014).
Finally, "The Control Profile" was the last aspect that completely surprised me. In specific ways, a textbook stating a particular gender that constitutes "half the constituent" in society contributes to the perpetuation of gender inequity. Females unconsciously develop the belief that they do not measure up to men, and as a result, they tend to keep out of high-stakes decision-making situations and positions in which they might have excelled (Jaber, 2014). Upon reading the report, what strategies do you think could be helpful, in promoting gender equality in Jordan? After reading this study, I believe that the first step Jordan may take to improve its female population's situation is to change the content of the textbooks that serve as the foundation of their primary educational system (Jaber, 2014). This is because children are incredibly impressionable at such a young age. To do this, they must be taught how to see one another, regardless of whether they are male or female. Women's empowerment will be well on its way to eradicating by the time this generation is brought into being. Take a moment to think about how womenomics looks in your country. Describe the aspects of womenomics where you live and how you believe it can improve. In my location, there are "special jobs" in which 90 per cent of women will not participate because of the nature of the work. Construction, welding, plumbing, driving, and various other occupations are examples. In most cases, the women pursue careers in multiple fields such as hotel management, culinary services, saloon and hairdressing services. This was the condition that existed in my locality in the previous years. Many crossovers from both genders are present in the current generation, though. Genders working in jobs that would have been regarded unusual only a few years ago are now a familiar sight. In the future years, I anticipate that the cooperation between the two genders will become fluid and natural.
