Argument Research Essay Proposal Please complete all 3 parts of this template using the example proposal template from the assignment instructions as your guide. Download this file, complete your answers, save and upload to the assignment submission area. I. Based on your current favorite choice for a topic/debate within the course theme announcement , answer the following: A. State your stance within the debate you chose, without using “I.” (1 sentence) Given the rise in the use of artificial intelligence systems today, the government should establish an agency to oversee the development of these systems and formulate ethical frameworks for the design process and legal principles to guide applications in achieving responsible technology. B. Why is your stance a good one for an argument research essay? (at least 3 sentences) My stance identifies the problem, proposes a solution and speculates the outcomes. Therefore, it provides a framework for the research process to build a defense for my proposal. C. Who might disagree with your stance and why? (at least 3 sentences) Tech companies and artificial intelligence system designers will likely disagree with my stance as they will be directly impacted by government intervention in technology development. The tech companies will oppose my proposal because the government will impose regulations on technology development, impeding growth in the industry. On the other hand, artificial intelligence systems designers will oppose my stance because government involvement in the technology development processes will limit creativity freedom. Although my proposal’s purpose is reinforcing ethics and accountability in intelligent systems’ development, the ethical and legal frameworks will limit the technologies the above stakeholders produce. ©2021 Chamberlain University
D. Who do you imagine your audience will be? (at least 2 sentences) My audience will be the public, lawmakers and industries that use technology, including healthcare, education and media. The public is composed of consumers of technology and suffers the adversity of regulated intelligent systems such as privacy invasion. Likewise, my proposal involves the development of regulations, making lawmakers a relevant audience. Moreover, government intervention will limit technologies being developed, affecting industries that apply intelligent systems. II. In a full paragraph of 7-9 sentences, and without performing any research, please note what you already understand about the debate and what you do not already understand about the debate: I know that ethics in artificial intelligence systems ensure that humans retain control over technological advancements. I also know that some organizations have ethics boards tasked with supervising the design and development of intelligent systems. Additionally, I know that without proper regulations, these intelligent systems cause harm to users. This outcome necessitates government regulations because technology is meant to improve users’ lives. However, I do not know the specific components of the ethical and legal frameworks. I also do not know whether these frameworks will be sufficient for responsible technology development. III. Shortly, you will begin scholarly research in the library. This research will help you find opposing viewpoints (sources that disagree with you) and supporting viewpoints (sources that agree with you), as well as information to fill in missing gaps in knowledge you may have. With all three of these goals in mind, please list five possible search phrases you might use when you begin searching in the library. Characteristics of responsible technology development Positive impacts of responsible artificial intelligent systems Ethical and legal frameworks for technology development Benefits of unregulated production of intelligent systems Alternative interventions for ethical issues in artificial intelligent systems’ development. ©2021 Chamberlain University
