Job Skills Essay Laura G. Thompson Angie Miller English IV November 6th, 2014 Important Job Skills There are several different skills that are important to have to have no matter what the job you are in search of or already have. Employers have told us for quite sometime now what they expect out us; and I'm going to talk about the most basic ones everyone should have, including: confidence in themselves and their work, excellent communication skills, flexibility, adaptability and being reliable. Everyone is drawn to confidence; it's a proven fact. Although, you also want to make sure you're still able to accept positive feedback and apply the lessons learned. Employers want you to be confident in your work and the company or business which you ...show more content... Flexibility leads to being a reliable and responsibility. You should show up when you're scheduled and even a few minutes early. Make sure to take responsibility; complete any work on time and make it to work in a timely manner at all costs. If you do ever need time off make sure you schedule it way in advance and call whenever an emergency pops up. Lastly, take responsibility when you're to blame; you'll always be better off in doing so. Finally, adaptability. You need to be able to adapt and work around any given problem; which means you need to be able to be resourceful and have excellent problem solving skills. To be adaptable would also include efficiently completing your work under stress, new environments, new coworkers and with limited resources. ± These are some of the top skills I have found to be most important to employers that everyone should have. The Work For The Government Essay 1.The author gives many reasons as to "why" work for the government. Choose 5 reasons given and explain what they are and whether or not they appeal to you. (3 pts) Here are five of the reasons the author gives for working in the government. Stable employment. This is one of the major perks of working for the government , mostly for the federal government. Government employees keep their jobs in many occasions until is their time for retirement. Even though is not something that happens to everybody, in cases where the government has reductions in personnel or change in departments their employees may go find a job in another agency or department. As many government employees that I know would say. "there's nothing like knowing that your paycheck will be there every 1st and 15th of the month. Pay and benefits. As mention in the book, the pay government employees get is usually less than the one for employees in the private industry. Mostly in the management level, but the benefits given by the government are what makes up for the gap in payment. When taking the benefits under consideration, the government employee may earn more than people in the private sector . I used to be in the military and the pay was not that great, but the benefits make so much for it. If I ever consider working for the government, benefits would be one of the biggest factors for making that decision. Variety of Career Opportunities. There are many different agencies in the government, and the Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Essay about Motivation for Work "Work" is a positive thing for many people. To some people, it may be described as a place to escape from the kids, or even a time consumption thing for a single or retired person, but most importantly it is what we do in order to provide for our families and ourselves. Work is something that we all will experience at one time or another during our lives. There are several reasons why a person goes to work. These reasons can be better explained as "work motivation ". Work motivation can be defined as the inner forces that make us work and want to work harder to achieve personal or organizational goals (George & Jones, 2005). There are two different types of motivation; intrinsic and extrinsic. When personal goals motivate us, ...show more content... On the other hand, things like total accomplishment motivate Aberdeen's employees; they thrive on bettering the work environment, learning new skills and getting to participate in–group leadership. You could say that the main difference between the Aberdeen and Green River plants have mostly to do with which type of motivational reasoning each have. Aberdeen employees are motivated for intrinsic reasons. They continue to work hard for the satisfaction of the entire company doing well, as Green River employees do things for extrinsic reasons. They are only concerned with doing only what it takes to make more money. There are several different ways an employer can motivate their employee's: job design & goals, performance appraisal, pay, and career development. Job design is the process of envisioning and defining specific work systems for a particular job, and deciding what techniques, procedures, and equipment that it will take to do the job (George & Jones, 2005). Job design plays an important role in enhancing motivational levels in the workplace. It seems that if you can break jobs down individually and make them simpler to understand & do, then people are more apt to do them effectively. With this in mind, I would like to recommend that Green River's management break their jobs down into steps to help simplify and make for better production. Developing goals and teams, as well as teaching them to share the Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

My Career as a Teacher Essay As I begin my rewarding career as I teacher, I sit and reflect on what my goals and priorities are in the classroom. I am excited to be engaged in a future career where I can implement my own beliefs and mold the future into something extremely positive. The different methods I would like to use to teach my lessons include but are not limited to; scientific investigation which uses the scientific method . The scientific method includes first investigating the problem, coming up with a logical hypothesis, performing the experiment, reading the results, and finally completing an analysis of the results. The next method I would explore is decision making which is the thought process of selecting a logical choice from the available options. Next is problem solving. When I teach the students to problem solve accurately they be able to overcome obstacles and find a solution that best resolves the issue. Next, I will help my students think critically which includes identification and evaluation to problem solving. Finally, I will use the method of cooperative learning which is an approach to organizing classroom activities into academic and social learning experience. Why Teenagers Should Have Part Time Jobs Having a job can be very beneficial to students, there can also be some risks, but the benefits outweigh the risks. That is why teenagers in highschool should have part–time jobs. Here are some benefits and some risks with having a job as a teenager in highschool. With jobs there are usually some risks but there are also benefits, for example; you could get hurt while working. However, there are many benefits like having some money in your pocket, or having more responsibilities. The best benefit from working is to have money, and it also gives you something to occupy your time . This lets them learn the value of the dollar and what it's worth. They will learn how to get money, and how you have to work for it. They will start "understanding how to be smart about what they spend and knowing that money is earned, not granted."(Ranae). Teenagers can start appreciating the value of money, and that it isn't always easy to make a few dollars. Time management is something teenagers can learn while working while in school, or if they also in sports or other extra–curricular activities. They will have to balance their time between work, school, and everything else that they do. This will put them in a position where time management skills are needed to perform well at all there tasks including working and school. Essay On Job Opportunities Employment Opportunities The UCSD Career Center provides many opportunities to develop the future careers of students, and one of those opportunities is student employment. The Port Triton Portal is an online collection of all work opportunities for students, including jobs, internships, and volunteering, including work study, where students can apply for jobs and employers can post job listings. Although the Port Triton Portal is only accessible by students and potential employers, I would guess that the jobs that are being offered include both on and off campus jobs, as well as full time and part time jobs. Since students are still studying while working the jobs, I presume that most of the job opportunities for students don't ...show more content... Extracurricular Activities UCSD's intercollegiate athletics competes in NCAA Division II in the California Collegiate Athletic Association conference, and they are the UC San Diego Tritons. For their intercollegiate sports, they offer many men's and women's sports, from basketball to fencing to water polo, and offer the same sports for both men and women for the most part, although men have golf and baseball, while women have softball. In addition to intercollegiate athletics, UCSD offers both intramural sports and club sports. Intramural sports are recreational sports that are open to anyone, and allow athletes to compete in a friendly atmosphere. It costs $7 a quarter to play intramural sports, but that $7 allows a student to participate in as many intramurals as they desire. The school offers many different intramural sports, for men, women, and coed, allowing students to have fun and socialize while playing a sport that they enjoy. Club sports is another form of intercollegiate athletics, but it isn't on the same competitive scale as NCAA athletics, and allows Get more content on StudyHub.Vip
Teenagers On After-school Jobs Essays Almost every teenager wants a job, yet many people are against it. I believe teenagers should have after–school jobs for a number of reasons. First, having a son or a daughter that works can financially help the parents. Also, the experience the teenager will acquire from after–school jobs will help him or her on future jobs. Finally, teenagers should have after–school jobs because it will keep them away from trouble. Parents should realize that as long as their son or daughter wants an after–school job and it does not affect his or her performance at school, they should let their child have one.      Usually, families that have financial problems have their teenage children go to work. Having an extra family ...show more content... By having a job a teenager can save up for college, to buy a car, to buy a stereo, etc. Teenagers feel 'free' when they have a job: they can spend their own money on whatever they want without feeling guilty. In addition to helping his family, having a job at an early age can help for future jobs.      When many people apply for an important job, the employer will most likely choose the person who has the most working experience. People who have had a job since their teenage years will know how to deal with the stress and the work better than new people. They will be able to cope with job–related problems. This reason is very significant for teenagers who choose not to go to college, and their only reason for getting employed is experience. Yet, the most important reason is that jobs keep teenagers away from violence.       Jobs are very time–consuming. If a teenager works and goes to school, he will probably not have time to join a gang or get into fights. Nowadays more and more employees are getting drug–tested at their jobs. If a teenager likes his job or needs to work, he will not do drugs because he will get fired. Furthermore, if a teenager receives a paycheck he will spend his earned money instead of stealing. A job can lead a teenager to a better lifestyle and a healthier life.      I think teenagers should have after–school jobs. Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Essay about Choosing a Right Career Path Choosing a right career path can be tough. Especially, when the parents are involved. Parents want their children to have a better life in the future so they want their children to be educated. When they are successfully graduate from the college they can get a high paying job and earn much more than their parents. However, does everyone listen and follow their parents' decisions about the career? What happen if kids didn't want what their parents told them to do? Before it was too late to decide my major, I gave a chance for myself and picked something related to my future career. Before I told my parents I had decided to be a graphic designer , I did a little research on the job. It was good, but required lots experiences to get in a decent game company like Riot. But I did not stick with one job. I also heard of 3D modeling, programming and animation were good choices for me and I liked them too. I decided to go to City Tech College for four years education in Emerging Media major and I hoped I could get a job I like to do. According to the article "As Income Gap Widens, New York Grows Apart" written by James Parrott, college educated young workers' earning has fallen 6% since 1990. And it's false that those who pursue higher education and skills can get a higher economic reword. Everything is competitive now; the value of education does not count toward our future income earning. I realize that even if I graduated from the college there was higher chance I would not have a job or a job that I did not expect and paid very low. However, I do like what I do right now in my major class. I think if you did what you want and be happy with it, it doesn't matter how low you get paid you still fulfill in your life. Essay On Job Change In The Workplace Breakings through the chains of corporate slavery is in full affect. In other words, nobody wants to work for a heartless corporation that does not value their staff. Individuals are educated and ready to make a career change if necessary. The overwhelming feeling of being imprisoned by a job is dreadful. Even the most loyal captive will seek an opportunity to break free from a dreadful organization. The sensation of being confined within an organization with no room to grow or expand is a daunting feeling. When individuals are treated as if they do not matter, it raises the question; why stay here? If employers are naïve enough to think that there are no other options for hard working people, they are wrong. The information being ...show more content... Given that, top performers need to know how to get to where they want to be in the organization, and direction needs to be supplied. The simple truth is, when a company lacks the ability to show the individual a path of progression in order to move forward, it can be detrimental to the organization bottom–line, as turn–over affects the profits of an organzation. The result is employees will disengage and will seek other opportunities of employment elsewhere. As a final point, providing staff with a career path is similar to creating a psychological contract for an employee to stay employed with the company. By companies investing in the employee's growth and development, they will grow in to a loyal employee and stay with the corporation . Creating a path for an employee increases employee retention. This creates a strong sense of purpose for the individual; they become connected to the organization, as they desire to be a part of the bigger picture (Gupta). Consequently, an organization that lacks to provide leadership and vision in the workplace, the company can count on disengaged employees that are demotivated to work. A company that provides a sense of direction by providing a purpose for staff is an important framework for employee engagement. Vision is not a difficult task to rein employees in, in fact, it is a critical skill to have in order to engage and retain the best employees. Get more content on StudyHub.Vip
Essay about How To Be A Good Employee Being a good employee is essential in today's world, especially in these tough economic times when there are many seeking work. Consequently, it is important to keep in mind that no employee is irreplaceable. While hearing many complain these days about his or her job, one just needs to look around and be thankful that they have the means in which to survive and are able to work. There are many who are not only unemployed, but also unable to perform due to illness or a disability. Sometimes when a person is feeling in a mood to complain, they may need to sit back, relax and take a look around in order to appreciate what they have, and learn how to be a good employee. Being a good employee means caring about your job and your company. In ...show more content... Staying to finish the job or at least reach a stopping point will not be that much of a delay. If it is impossible to stay later, then you should plan your day more effectively Do not call in sick unless you are, or take for granted that you can call in a vacation day spontaneously. Vacations and personal time should be scheduled. When you are out, your job is delegated to others, and having to take on unexpected responsibilities without being prepared can affect production or productivity, as well cause stress and conflict among others. Be that employee who, when someone asks you to do something, will feel confident that the job will be done, and done right, without a doubt. Dependability goes a long way in the workforce, and having the reputation of being the employee that everyone can count on is a compliment. *Be respectful This means to respect others as you would want them to respect you. If you ask someone for help and they concur, do not steal the credit for their work. On the other hand, if what they helped you with is unintentionally wrong, do not blame them or yell at them, as they were only trying to help you out. Never cut someone else down in front of others, yell at them or point out their bad qualities. Do not gossip, or fall in to the trap of one who does. Gossip can destroy a person and ruin their career, and is something that is easy to fall in to. *Use time wisely Plan your day, have an agenda of things to Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Essay On Looking For A Job This report aims to provide an aid to deal with the current difficulties recent graduates, in particular; business graduates, face when searching for a job. Since the Great Recession and the slow job market recovery many recent university and college graduates have trouble finding jobs suited to their level of education. Many are stuck with jobs that are of low wages with no opportunity for promotions. In addition many recent graduates do not have work experience and do not know where to start when looking for a job. In order to find a solution to this problem, this report evaluates three prospective internet job sites; Indeed, LinkedIn and The Career Directory, and makes a recommendation based on the assessment of which site best aids ...show more content... However, many recent graduates will benefit even more so from the resume writing help, career advice and networking opportunities, that places like Linkedin and The Career Directory provide. Though it offers a quick way to search for jobs and apply, Indeed lacks the strong career resources a recent graduate needs, as they are new to the job market and need more direction than someone who has had experience. LinkedIn The basic functionality of LinkedIn is that it allows users to create profiles, describing their work experience, schooling and training, capabilities, and a photo which is basically used as their resume. Individuals can use their profile as their resume and most employers search through LinkedIn profiles for new employees, so individuals will gain attention from employers without even applying. LinkedIn's most important and beneficial service is that allows it users to network with other professionals online. It is common for full–time students to have little to no work experience to include on their resumes, thus making it challenging to stand out from experienced candidates. Therefore networking is crucial as they can use their connections to obtain second–degree connection from someone who is employed at a specific company they are interested in, and ask for a referral or recommendation (Iyengar, 2017). As seen in the graph below, research states that "85 percent of jobs are found through Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

SURVIVING IN TODAY’S JOB MARKET Essay The job market today is difficult for both employees and employers. It hurts emotionally and financially to lose a job, and it is equally painful to have to terminate someone. Both sides struggle. If you work for an organization that may be facing layoffs, being prepared helps. Below are some tips Begin by praying –– and often. Ask God to help you maintain a positive attitude and to keep your mind from flooding with negative, fearful possibilities. Do not allow your mind to play the theme of my family will go hungry. My spouse and kids will leave me. I will never find another job that I like. I will end up homeless, alone, and living on the streets. Such thinking reflects a failing of relying on the Lord. Basically, all required very similar skills. One of my students used the same skills working as a dental assistant as she did selling jewelry. She was able to show a potential employer how her persuasion of others was a required strength in both prior jobs and how his opening would let her to do what she enjoyed most. Career Reflection Essay Olivia McCarthy Foundations for Learning September 9, 2010 Reflection Paper #1 Upon being asked about my future, I have always been met with anxiety and fear of such unknown. Growing up, as more and more of my peers developed their specific interests and even revealed desired career choices, I only felt lost in terms of what I wished to purse. I found that I was easily overwhelmed if I allowed myself to read too deeply into the dreaded "what am I going to do with my life" question. I have come to realize that it is much less anxiety provoking, however, if I view this matter on a smaller scale. After all, I do have aspirations and goals that I strive to achieve on a short–term basis. With regard to college, a top priority of mine ...show more content... As well as focusing on academics, I also believe that in the future I will expand my social experiences. Familiarizing myself with diversity and broadening my horizons is in my opinion important to act upon. For example, as I embark on the Study Abroad program here at Bryant during my "Sophomore Year Experience" or as I travel after college, I see myself meeting new and exciting people (whether from Spain, Europe, Australia, etc) who can educate me in how their government is run, school systems are set up and overall what it's like to live in a place that is so much different from my home. In turn, I will be able to do the same for them. Around the end of my sophomore year, I see myself narrowing down a career choice. After taking many different courses during previous years here at Bryant, I see that I finally figure out my purpose and I am confident with my specific decision. As this realization hits, I see myself getting into and working hard in graduate school in order to further my studies before entering the work force. Upon choosing a career I see myself with a comfortable income, independent, in a very positive disposition. After I am able to be financially stable and independent, I see myself meeting my future life partner and settling down. I see this person as being not only my romantic partner, but also my best friend and most reliable support system. Starting a healthy, comfortable family would Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

The Career of Engineering Essay The Career of Engineering Take a look around yourself. What do you see? Maybe books, chairs, a television, or even your clothes. All the day to day things that are man–made, you can be sure that an engineer helped make it. Engineers have shaped our world as we know it. There are many different kinds of engineers from chemical, mechanical, textile, civil, agricultural and structural engineers. Our civilization would be as advanced as the Stone Age without these people. This career demands a wide education of math and science. It is an ever–changing career with new advances in materials and the way products are produced. Engineering careers are very secure with respect to compensation. Regardless of this, it does have it's disadvantages ...show more content... (Britannica 243) Another disadvantage of being an engineer is the actual status of being one. It is not looked upon as highly as other fields such as doctors and lawyers. Most of the time they are looked upon as nerds. In addition, most engineers are not promoted to high level positions such as presidents or top executives. They do not have the accounting or business education to do that particular job. This means that most engineers never get the opportunity to be their own boss. (Basta 22) The job of an engineer itself is a creative job. The actual definition of an engineer is "The profession in which a knowledge of the mathematical and natural sciences gained by study, experience and practice is applied with judgment to develop ways to utilize the materials and forces of nature economically for the benefit of mankind." (Bastas 24) In having the basic skills and experiences in math and science, an engineer is basically an inventor. They are given a problem and are depended on to come up with a solution. Whether it be a new chemical, a mechanical part, or even a whole new system such as computer operating program, engineers are the problem solvers of our materialistic society. (Basta 45) Many engineers work in laboratories, industrial plants, or construction sites where they inspect, supervise, or solve onsite problems. (Britannica 244) Engineering itself has a sort of chain of command in the way a project is handled. It follows in the Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Job Experience Essay Nearly seven years ago, when I started working for the local DirecTV installation company, it wasn't exactly a dream come true. I had the aptitude for it, having worked previously as a home theatre installer back in Kansas City, but this job was much easier by comparison. What made this job less than desirable were the hot attics, damp crawlspaces where I wasn't always the only thing crawling around and the loose eaves near ideal dish mounting locations that were often home to swarms of hornets. Less than a week into the job I was offered a promotion of sorts. They needed inspectors to verify that things were done correctly at several installation locations each week and they wanted someone who hadn't been around long enough to make ...show more content... The best part of this situation for me was the pay. I was making $12.50 per inspection. That's over $1500 per week! Despite the great pay, I had been unemployed for nearly a month before starting this job and because of tool costs to get started hadn't taken home much during my first week as an installer. The first paycheck I received had an error in it. I was told by my Manager at the Paducah Office to call the corporate office and talk to payroll directly and they would handle it. I regularly heard new employees being told, "Call payroll and ask for an advance", not just due to pay errors, but also to cover the startup costs of tools and ladders. This advice would soon lead to disaster. For the first time in several months I was going to Atlanta, Georgia to visit my daughter for the weekend . I had received one puny paycheck and one nice one, but had spent everything to get caught up on bills that had accumulated during my unemployment. So, I did what experience and observation had taught me to do, I called payroll and asked for a relatively small advance to cover my weekend trip. Currently, their football team is doing pretty well, as they are seeded in the top 25 of Division I football and are in the hunt to go to the BCS playoffs. In addition to intercollegiate sports, UW also offers intramural sports and club sports. For their intramural sports, they offer everything from basketball to softball to soccer, but one thing that did catch my eye was that they have a 6 feet and under intramural basketball league, which is something I had never seen before.
