This skill is essential for articulating complex technical concepts to a diverse audience, writing effective research papers, and crafting compelling grant proposals. As a Computer Science major, I recognize that the ability to communicate effectively can distinguish a good technical expert from a great one. a. Debatable Nature of the Topic This topic is debatable because there's a common assumption in STEM fields that technical skills should take precedence over soft skills like writing. However, persuasive writing is crucial for advocacy, explaining the significance of projects, and securing funding. While some may argue that the primary focus of computer science education should be on coding and technical skills, I contend that writing is equally important for career advancement and industry innovation (Kay, 2011; Mehra, 2023). 2. Potential Challenges with Specific Audiences a. Audience Identification The intended audience for this essay includes computer science educators, students, industry professionals, and policy-makers in education. b. Challenges Challenges include addressing the undervaluation of writing skills in the STEM community and the potential resistance to integrating writing into a heavily technical curriculum. Key Points to Support the Argument a. Persuasive writing is essential for effective communication of complex technical concepts to non-specialist audiences. b. Strong writing skills are crucial for the publication of research findings in peer- reviewed journals, which is a cornerstone of academic and professional recognition in computer science (Qadir et al., 2023). c.
