Channing Long Professor Spray ENVS 101 January 24, 2023 Electricity Analysis The average American household uses about 11,000 kWh per year. However, household electricity consumption varies across regions of the United States and among housing types. On average, apartments in the northeast consume the least amount of electricity per year, and family houses in the south consume the most. Houses in the south are more likely to have electric heating and use air conditioning more (U.S. Energy, 2019). My average use is about 7,979 kWh per year, Compared to the average American household I use about 3,000 kWh less per year. The electricity we use in our homes is produced from a mix of different fuels such as nuclear, coal and renewables. Different amounts of each fuel used make up our fuel mix (Byrom, S, 2020). The united nations compare energy use in ‘kg”. 11.6kWh = 1kg of oil which means that 7979.63- 11.6=688kg. In 2015 the average use in the United Stated was 6,804kg. In Nigeria for 2014 is was 751kg and for Pakistan it was 432kg (n.d, 2023). If I was to have to live like a Nigerian or Pakistani person I would have to limit my use of energy. I would have to keep things unplugged when they are not in use, be more useful of the daytime light and use that instead of lights, and maybe open window for air and breeze instead of using a fan. I notice that a lot of energy is being used for items that are not being used, like when I’m not using my phone charger it can be
unplugged, also when my laptop is not being used it can be unplugged and when I’m not playing my gaming console that can be turned completely off instead of being put in standby mode. These are only a few ways that would help save energy in my home.
