Lab 9 - Regenerative circuit 2021W Introduction: In this 9th lab exercise, the students will assemble the first (1 st ) standard hydraulic circuit as well as the second (2 nd ) regenerative hydraulic circuit. The regenerative circuit require the solenoid operated (A-OFF-B) in “A” position and 2 nd hand lever of the other DCV in order to extend and retract the horizontal cylinder. In order to operate properly, sol “A” & lever must switch at the same time. NOTE: MASK, Safety glasses and safety shoes must be worn at all times in the hydraulic lab class. Procedures for 8: 1. Draw circuit No. 9 using the automation studio software, and test run your circuit in the simulation mode. Observe the flow path (blue in color) during the flow to the actuator. 2. Assemble the circuit as shown in circuit diagram No. 9. 3. Adjust the system pressure to 500 psi with the relief valve. 4. Switch on the solenoid operated (A-OFF-B) direction control Valve (DCV) to extend and retract the rod of the actuator. The 2 nd lever operated DCV must be held in the correct control position when extending and again held correctly to return the actuator rod to the home position. 5. Record the required information on chart A. Page 2 of 5

Lab 9 - Regenerative circuit 2021W QUESTIONS: (type your answers here, hand written answers won’t be accepted) 1. Define a regenerative circuit and give some examples of its application. Regenerative Circuit is when the process of increasing the extension speed of the double acting cylinder. They do this by routing fluid exiting the rod end of the cylinder back to its cap end instead of routing the fluid back into the tank. An application of this would be Presses, and Waste Compactors. 2. Did all of the pump flow go to the cylinder while operating regenerative circuit? Explain Yes, due to the fact that the output line was connected to the input of the cylinder. 3. Based on CHART A information, DURING EXTERNSION only, Calculate the power (Hp) for; Standard Circuit Regenerative Circuit Horsepower = Pressure(psi) x Flow(gpm) 1714 HP = 100 X 2.7 / 1714 HP = 0.1575262544 HP Horsepower = Pressure(psi) x Flow(gpm) 1714 HP = 380 X 4.0 / 1714 HP = 0.8868144691 HP 4. What happens to extension speed in Regenerative circuit, if rod diameter is decreased? The Speed of extension would increase while the speed of retraction would decrease Simulation Build Circuit Circuit Sketch RULER HAND DRAWING Signatures Page 4 of 5
