4. What is the voltage across and the current through each parallel resistor if the total voltage is 12V and the total resistance is 550 ohm? There are four resistors, all of equal value. R = 4 x 550 = 2200ohms I = 12/2200 = 0.00545A It = 4L = 4 x 0.00545 = 0.0218A 12/550 = 0.0218A The total current is 21.8mA and is the same as the voltage across and through each parallel resistor. 6. What is the total resistance of the circuit as seen from the voltage source for each position of the switch in figure 6=64? A. 1.0k + 2.7k = 3.7k ohms B. 1.0k + 2.2k = 3.2k ohms C. 1.0k + 2.8k = 3.8k ohms 8. What is the total current from the voltage source in Figure 6=64 for each switch position? 15/1.8 = 8.33mA 10. There is a total of 500mA of current in five parallel resistors. The currents through four of the resistors are50 mA, 150mA, 25mA, and 100mA. What is the current through the fifth resistor? To solve this you simply add the four resistant values and subtract the sum from the total resistant value. So you would have, 500 – 325 = 175mA 16. The following resistors are connected in parallel: 1.0 MΩ, 2.2 MΩ, 5.6 MΩ, 12 MΩ, and 22 MΩ. Determine the total resistance. 1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3 + 1/R4
1/Rt = 1/1x10^6 + 1 2.2x10^6 + 1/ 5.6x10^6 + 1/ 12x10^6 + 1/ 22x10^6 1/Rt =0.000001762404 Rt = 567.6k 18. Calculate RT for each circuit in Figure 6-66. A. Rt = 1/560 + 1/220 = 1/0.0063312 = 157.9 B. Rt = 27 + 56 = 83k C. Rt = 1.5 + 2.2 = 3.7k 20. Five 470 Ω, ten 1,000Ω, and two 100 Ω resistors are all connected in parallel. What is the total resistance for each of the three groupings? 470Ω, 100Ω, 50Ω Rt = 1/ 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3 24. What is the total current in each circuit of Figure 6=69 A. 0.303 + 0.303 + .370 = 0.976A B . 25.0.334 = 74.85mA 26. Four equal value resistors are connected in parallel. Five volts are applied across the parallel circuit, and 1.11mA is measured from the source. What is the value of each resistor? R = V/It x N R = 1126.13Ω 32. Determine the current through RL in each circuit in Figure 6-74 Kirchhoff’s voltage law states the current leaving the source is equal to the current across the resistor so RL = 1mA 34. How much branch current should each meter in Figure 6-76 indicate? 1/Rt = 1/1000 + 1/2700 1/Rt = 0.00137

Rt = 729.93Ω IT = V./Rt 3 =v/729.93 V = 2189.79V I1 =2189.79/1000 I1 = 2.19A I2 = v/R2 I2 = 2189.79/2700 = 0.81A It = 2.19 + 0.81 = 3 I = 3 A 40. Five parallel resistors each handle 250mW. What is the total power? Pt = 250 + 250 + 250 +250 + 250 = 1250mW 42. Six light bulbs are connected in parallel across 120v. Each bulb is rated at 75W. What is the current through each bulb, and what is the total current? I = 75/120 = 0.625A It = 0.625 x 6 = 3.75A 46. In figure 6=81, the current and voltage measurements are indicated. Has a resistor opened, and, if so, which one? According to the image in 6-81, it seems as if the R1 resistor has opened because the current is too high to be correct. 25/4.7 = 5.32 and the figure shows the current as 7.82mA.
