Kaela Cantrell SCI-489 September 9, 2022 3-1 Project Log For the final research project, I’ve had to identify various resources to compile data pertinent to my statement problem and research hypothesis. It is important to show if there is a correlation between historical meteorological and climate data and the increase in surface level temperatures to support or disprove my hypothesis. At this point in the final project, I’ve compiled datasets that include local climatological data, weather radars, precipitation measurements in different intervals, and global marine data from the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center. The analysis process I am using has been to correlate the data within Excel using the CORREL function which allows the creation of graphical representations to demonstrate whether there is a correlation between surface level temperature and increased tropical activity. As a second portion of my project, I would like to illustrate areas that are susceptible to storm surge inundation. Thus far, I’ve had some troubles utilizing ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro within the VDI provided by the university. The system is painfully slow, and because it’s a virtual desktop, I’ve had issues with making folder connections. I might have found a way around it by downloading the data into my student One Drive and accessing the drive through the VDI, but I’ve come across an error showing the folder is empty. Since these issues persist, I’ve been doing research by watching YouTube instructional videos to hopefully overcome this obstacle so that I may create the maps that I’m envisioning for the final polished artifact.
