Biblical Application Taxes Assignment John Lytle Liberty University ECON214: Principles of Macroeconomics Professor James Ibe December 15, 2023
Biblical Application Taxes Assignment The passage that I chose to write on is Romans 13-6-10. In this passage, Pual is answering the Roman church’s question about whether or not they should pay taxes to Caesar, to which Pual reasons that as rulers are instated by God, by not showing your leaders the respect that they command, you are disobeying God. Paul continues by saying that you should not owe anyone anything, with the only exception being love. As for whether this passage supports The Case for Promoting Saving through Tax or not, I believe that the passage is against The Case for Promoting Saving through Tax as the passage spends the majority of the time talking about how it is vital that you focus on showing love to others rather than being concerned about your finances. Another reason for my opinion is that Saving through Tax Reform favors the wealthy while typically hurting the people in poverty, which may cause a conflict regarding loving your neighbor above all else. Ultimately, as the passage does not directly discuss the topic, there is no one correct answer, as an argument for both sides can be made. However, it is vital to recognize that the passage focuses on showing the love of Christ to the people in our lives rather than our finances.
