Economic Indicator: Unemployment Assignment John Lytle Liberty University ECON214: Principles of Macroeconomics Professor James Ibe November 13, 2023
Economic Indicator: GDP Assignment During October 2023, the unemployment rate in the United States was 3.9%, a modest increase from the 3.8% of the month prior (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2023a). Despite this, the unemployment rate remains exponentially lower than the predicted 4.6% from December 2022 (Lahart, 2023). Throughout October, approximately 150,000 jobs were added, significantly below the monthly average of 258,000 over the past 12 months (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2023b). One reason for the lull in employment is a result of the Autoworker strike, where nearly
30,000 workers went on strike demanding higher wages ( CES Strike Report: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics , 2023).
