November 25, 2022 Sam’s Club Corporate Office 4265 Diplomacy Drive Columbus, OH 43228 To Whom It May Concern: I have volunteered alongside ten others at the First Pentecostal Church located at 100 Square Street, Bluefield, Virginia, for over 12 years and have helped pass out food to those in need twice weekly. By the locals, this is affectionately called “Produce” or the food bank. Approximately 150 families per week count on the food to support their meals. Many of the consumers are senior citizens and young mothers on a limited income. Without this service, people will go without food. The organization is self- sufficient and financially supported by the church and a few individuals. The Southwest Virginia community has suffered greatly due to shutdowns of mining-related businesses and the recent inflation rate. The closest “produce” comparable to First Pentecostal is located in Abingdon, VA, which is 1.5 hours away. Local food banks are limited, and some only pass out food once per month. I am asking that you reinstate donations as you have done for approximately 14 years. Your support has impacted thousands of lives and is greatly needed in our community. When I spoke to the local Sam’s Club Manager at the Bluefield, Virginia club. he informed me that corporate made the decision to discontinue the donations. The donations do not cost the club anything, yet it supports those who are food insecure. Greg Hammond, the local Union Mission representative, is also concerned about the discontinued donations because he serves the same population and has witnessed the impact.
