2-2 Analysis Paper 1 Cody Kearns SNHU IT-515-Q2523 Innovation in Info Technology 23TW2 December 17, 2023
2-2 Analysis Paper 2 When it comes to innovation and Apple inc, the two go hand and hand in a way. “Apple Computer, Inc. was founded on April 1, 1976, by college dropouts Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, who brought to the new company a vision of changing the way people viewed computers.” (Library of Congress, 2023) From that same company, there have been several more products that have changed the way technology has evolved. Products such as the Macbook air which this paper is being worked on, as well as the Ipad that has increased what the Iphone was capable of. This paper will attempt to analyze the patterns of innovation as well as the S curves to get a better picture of how Apple has shaped the way we connect with one another. Like with most Apple products, the Macbook air has gotten thinner as the years go by, creating a more convenient way to work on business or school. Consumers want the next best thing, that is human nature. As the times have evolved, so too have the wants and needs of the everyday person. Fox News reported earlier this year that “With a light and durable design and just 11 millimeters thick, it is the world’s thinnest 15-inch laptop weighing just 3.3 pounds. No matter which of the four colors you may choose, the long 18-hour estimated battery life will keep you going between plugging in.” (Knutsson, Fox News, 2023) The following S curve, provided by E.M. Rooster from “The Big Stack” is an example of how Apple works through a lot if not all of their products. In the case of the Macbook air, there is a sense
2-2 Analysis Paper 3 of uncertainty in the beginning, is this going to be a good idea or blow up in their face? Once the product launches, the company has some optimism that things will work out. Then it gets a new head of steam and expectations are high for profit margins. Suddenly, interest in the Macbook fads and thus the change to the size of screen and other adjustments occur until it levels out and the company decides to move on to the next project. In this case, a new s curve was created when Apple first introduced the Ipad. “The first Apple iPad was released in April 2010 and there have been six versions since then, with the latest two models announced in October 2014. The iPad is the market leader in the tablet market. The S-curve is well advanced (penetration level 82.7%) leaving little remaining growth potential.” (Dorsey, 2019) As Dorsey states, there is little room to improve on what is most likely the strongest product of its kind in regards to tablets. The following S-Curve demonstrates the sales of the Ipad over its lifespan up until 2018: Just like the previous curve, sales were slow in the beginning, with only about 25 million units sold within the first year of rollout. As times shifted and newer models were introduced into the market, there was a substantial growth in sales well into the 300 mill range when 2016 hit, which makes a lot of sense. With new updates to software and design, more interest was being made.

2-2 Analysis Paper 4 This S-curve is a more in depth perspective in regards to the lifespan of the worldwide iPad sales from the last graph. The market started off slow as to be expected. Growth was fairly sporadic between 2013 and 2015. This product still sees popularity from time to time making it one of the more enduring products from apple.
