Zachary Trotter    COURSE PROJECT PHASE 1 Zachary Trotter
ZACHARY TROTTER 1 Course Project Phase 1 Zachary Trotter 4/20/2023 CIS 101 Computer Purpose : o For my computer, I will use the PC I have already built for the standard. Mainly my PC is used for gaming, but I also use it for many side projects which include programming and 3D modeling. Operating System : o For operating systems I’ll go with windows 10 as it is what I am most familiar with. I’ve also found that many programs such as Autodesk and some older laser engraving software I use tend to run better on windows ten as some of the equipment I use it older, and they have yet to update the software to be compatible with windows 11. CPU : o For the CPU I’ve chosen the Intel Core i5-13600K. I am currently running the Core i5-9600k. I have always had good luck with intel and tend to be loyal to the brand. The 13600k has 14 cores, 20 threads @ 3.5GHz and a raptor lake chip set and was released in 2022. The cad software I use tend to bog down my current CPU since I am using multiple programs while I’m using it. Since the 13600 has 14 core this will allow my PC to multitask much easier. While there are better CPU’s for gaming the 13600 is comparable to the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x, but the extra cores allow it to handle the workload of designing as well so for me it a good in between to meet all my needs while not excelling in either. The 13600 is also

Cooling System : o While normally I just run a heat sink and fans the CPU, I’ve chosen runs much hotter due to its power consumption so I will choose to go with a liquid cooled system. Arctic has a product call the arctic liquid freezer, which as two 120mm fans that run at a max of 1800RPM. This will provide the maximum cooling needed for a CPU that tends to run on the warmer side than anything I have run previously. Motherboard : o For a motherboard I have chosen the Gigabyte z790 AORUS ELITE as it offers the best environment for the CPU. The board supports 128GB for DDR55 ram along with 6 PCIE slots. The board also supports 10 USB ports ranging from type C to 2.0. the board also supports up to 4 M.2 Memory cards which is great because since moving to a single M.2 my current PC as run much faster it will be nice to be able to do away with all my old disk hard drives. RAM : o For ram I’ve chosen to go with the Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB x2 this will provide me with 64GB of ram in total. The frequency this ram runs at is 6000MHz it is capable of this when utilizing the XMP 3.0 function on the motherboard. While the board and the CPU both support 128GB of ram I find this to be a bit over kill for my purposes I run 32GB of ram currently have rarely use all of it so I think half will do just fine for my purposes.
