1 Network Report Network Configuration--Explanation The diagram provided by the supervisor shows the local area network (LAN) inside of the organization. This is what will be used for the operating system upgrade. “A local area network (LAN) is nothing more than a structure for organizing and protecting network communications for all the devices running within a single home or office” (Clinton, 2020). Devices on this type of network are connected using either a physical or wireless connection to a network router. In our diagram, there are nine computers, a server, a printer, and a router/firewall connected with an ethernet cable. The network topology type is bus topology. The explanation of bus topology is, “It consists of a single cable, also known as the backbone, to which all the devices are connected” (Kohli, 2023). The computers in each department are what is used to conduct the work needed for the organization. These are connected with the ethernet cable and can share data. Since the diagram provided also includes a server, the network is in a client/server configuration. In a client/server configuration, the server shares things like files, folders, and printers which are accessed by clients. Besides the computers, there is also a printer and a router/firewall connected to the ethernet cable. The printer provides each department with printing capabilities. The last device in our diagram is a router. It has two connections, one to the ethernet cable and the other to the internet. The router is used as a gateway between the LAN and the Internet service provider (ISP). The diagram also includes a firewall with the router which provides protection for the entire network. Since it covers the whole network, it is called a network-based firewall.
2 Components Missing One component that is missing from the network diagram would be terminators. “Terminator is a device connected to one end of a bus or cable that absorbs signals,” (“Terminator”, 2019). Terminators prevent signal reflection that would produce interference that causes signal loss. Database Report Tables This table is a list of the computers in the organization. The fields are computer ID, the location of the computer, the employee ID of the employee the computer is assigned to, and whether the computer has an advanced software packet. The computer ID is a number instead of short text. This is a number that has been assigned to identify the computer. The employee ID is a number instead of short text to identify which employee is assigned to which computer. The advanced software packet is a yes/no instead of a short text because it just needs a simple checkbox to denote whether or not this is something the computer has. This table is a list of the employees in the organization. The fields are employee ID, Last Name, First Name, Job Title, Office Phone, and mobile phone. The employee ID and office phone number are number data types. The employee ID is a number data type because it is a number that is assigned to an employee to identify them. The Job Titles table is a list of the job titles held in the company. It only has the field of job title which is a short text data type. The upgrade information table is a list of all the computers in the organization and which upgrade group they belong to. The fields are computer ID, upgrade group, current OS version,

3 upgrade OS version, and upgrade date. The computer ID data type is number as this is a number assigned to identify the computer. The upgrade date is date/time as this is the date that the computer will be upgraded. Update Upgrade Date To input the upgrade dates, I opened the Upgrade Information table. I manually input the dates for the upgrades based on the group assigned to a computer. Group 1 got the initial upgrade date of December 1, 2023. Group 2 is 2 days after, Group 3 is 5 days after the initial upgrade date, Group 4 is 8 days after the initial upgrade date, and Group 5 is 10 days after the initial upgrade date. Query Each table provides information for the query. The Employee Information table provides last name, first name, and job title to the query. The Computer Information table provides the location. The Upgrade Information table provides the upgrade group and the upgrade date. The employee ID links the employee information table to the computer information table. The computer ID links the computer information table to the upgrade information table.
