Comp 2 – Assessment Part 2 Course Project Proposal Abdul Sameer Shaik University Of Phoenix MHA: 542: Leading With Authenticity In The Health Sector 09/05/2021 Debi Williams
Course project is focused on gaining information from the leaders of the organization that I work for namely Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). CHLA is a nonprofit institution that provides pediatric health care and helps patients more than half a million times each year. CHLA supports compassionate patient care, leading-edge education of the caregivers of tomorrow and innovative research efforts that impact children at our hospital. Being an effective leader at a healthcare organization demands an ability to communicate effectively and show empathy towards the employees and patients. Cognitive empathy, understanding how others think about the world, and emotional empathy, is understanding immediately how another person feels. Human skills like confidence, striving for goals despite setbacks, staying cool under pressure, harmony and collaboration, persuasion, and influence are the distinguishing competencies that are the crucial factors in the success of a leader. This project also intends to gain insights on how executing projects in an efficient fashion will help with the career advancement and how the leaders improve on execution without working long hours. Execution is one’s ability to achieve goals and objectives. It is one of the most important qualities expected to be in a leader along with integrity and honesty, inspiring and motivating, and problem-solving skills. People who are unfocused, slow, and lethargic seldom get promoted to leadership roles. Even though working hard and long yields great results short term, it may also result in leaders and the team members feeling burnt out, long term. This brings our next point which is sustainable methods of improving execution. Great leaders always organize, create a plan, and connect the projects that they overtake to the strategy of the organization, instead of readily jumping into the activities and taking actions. Being clear and methodical . Assembling resources and creating a clear plan on who is doing what makes everyone collectively responsible for the execution of the project. Setting goals and deadlines without going overboard, also helps with greater engagement and satisfaction within different team members. Giving regular feedback to the team members is one of the inherent qualities of the leaders that are great at execution. Taking time to listen and understanding employees’ perspectives instead of dictating and dropping messages all the time is essential in building chemistry and rapport with the team members. Leaders who are great at execution give a lot of positive recognition . Team culture is also very important aspect of the successful leaders. One
of the biggest things that successful leaders always focus on is resolving conflicts . When team members become angry or frustrated, they are strongly advised to take a moment to get into a neutral state before starting a difficult conversation. Interview details Interview is going to be conducted with the Chief Information Officer of CHLA, Steve Garske. Steve is the head of Information Services department that is responsible for providing Clinical Software and Information Technology support within the hospital. Interview questions : a. How long have you been in a leadership role and what are three important qualities that any leader should have? b. What are some of the strategies that you follow to communicate with the employees? c. What are some of the most important aspects behind a successful implementation of a project? d. How do you resolve conflicts between different individuals or groups within the department? What date(s) and time(s) is the interview scheduled for? September 10, 2021. 10:00 AM Explain how the interview will be tied to your leadership purpose I intend to see myself as one of the leaders of the organization that will lead a group to make a difference in helping the organization face the healthcare challenges (technical and financial) and work with number of individuals, both care providers and IT employees to create innovative solutions to take the organization to the next level and help become the best pediatric hospital in the country.
